just got the call. Didn't pick up because i was just coming in from walking the dogs. They didn't leave a message and when I called back they said it was Optima communications or something of that sort. Seems like a telemarketer or something.
Okay, too weird, this guy calls me obsessively and I've been screening his calls because of a room I advertised (and rented). I assumed he was someone inquiring, but would never leave a message... so based on principle, I wasn't going to pick up. It's been going on since about the end of July I believe.
Maybe I should do something? I could pick it up and lead him on or something... any thoughts?
it's a marketing company called Optima Canada - a recording when you call it back. calls me about 3-4 times a week. if i should ever get the opportunity to actually be home when the call comes in, i will surely give him/her an earfull STOP CALLING ME!!!
The same number 1-416-915-7933 from Optima Communications has been "harrassing" me now for over 2 weeks.(RECENTLY) I have gotten a total of 15 calls all in ONE week. (8 days). I have actually talked to them 3 times and have told them I am NOT interesting in any "insurance" coverage to help pay credit debts if I become "ill". I have told these people under NO conditions are they to call me again. I want my name REMOVED from their call list. They still call. Always different people. I was told it took 30 days for my name to be removed from their so called "list". This has been going on for 6 months from these people. How on earth do you stop them??? Any ideas? I am soooooo considering talking to a lawyer and having this company charged with harrassment. When I say NO it means NO, not to keep calling to harrase me or "bully" me into saying yes. UGH. Hate these people.
My surprise is that they call one day and say they are calling from Scotia Bank, the next time they called they said they were calling from American Express. Could Scotia Bank and American Express confirm this number to be working for them, or make them stop harrassing people
From my understanding....Many different companies like Banks (scotia, TdCanada trust, american express ect), Insurance companies and such Hire Optima Communications to do there telemarketing for them. I have tried calling my banks of which Optima Communications claims to be working for, well my bank claims they cannot do any thing about it as they didn't hire them. What the bank told me to do is to add my phone numbers to the NATIONAL DO NOT CALL LIST REGISTRATION. https://www.lnnte-dncl.gc.ca/index-eng I highly suggest you go to this site and ADD your phone number to the "National Do Not Call List Registration". After you register you number/s, ANY company who tries to solicit you for ANYTHING, after 31 days of your registration, well lets just say a lawyer can help you then. Once your name is on the list...NO company soliciting/telemarketers should be calling you. If they DO (there are rules and some may still call) then there is legally something you can do about it. So if you want to STOP those harrassing telemarketing companies from calling....please add your number to the list. I DID. It was FREE.
When Optima Communications called me again this evening and I was actually home to receive call, they said it was on behalf of Scotia-Bank. I have received umpteen calls over the past few weeks. When they mentioned "the call may be recorded for quality assurance", I replied that I did not wish to have my conversation recorded. The caller from optima communications, promptly said "Good night" and hung up.
Just want to clarify that even if you register your phone number on the NDNCL Optima still has the rights to contact you as all they are doing is contacting customers with existing business relationship with the company for at least the past 6 months. Not even a lawyer can help you out as they are just a 3rd party company contracted to work for Scotia Bank. What you can do is refer to your Scotia Bank Group privacy agreement *which you have sign when you got your bank account/credit card/line of credit etc.* Even if your name is on there as a co-sign they will still contact you as it's just a computer program with your phone numbers on a list.
I know it's a hassle but please remember on the other side of the phone there is a human being who's working there for a reason. And i can tell you that ON ONE wants to be the annoying telemarketer on the other side. We're just doing out job. Kindly ask us to put you on our own DNCL or you can contact your bank and directly tell them to remove yourself from all solicitation. And yes, apparently it's 30 days everywhere .... Bell, Rogers.....so just be patient.
Actually, it's a scam; they're after your personal information. So they are not legit and there is no reason to be anything other than curt with them -- unless you do the next logical thing, which is to report the call to your state Attorney General's office.
The link for the Do Not Call list is for Canada. It will not allow you to register a US phone number. It told me my phone number is invalid. I am already registered on the US Do Not Call List. Have US companies figured out a way around this list? They hire a Canadian company to call everyone, thus making the US Do Not Call list worthless?
Unfortunately, the DO NOT CALL list does not stop calls from companies that you have an existing relationship with(ie: banks, credit cards, insurance, etc). It also doesn't stop calls originating from outside of Canada. You can add your number to the list but in my experience, it doesn't reduce the number of annoying calls you receive.
companies such as Scotia Bank and American Express hire Optima Communications on their behalf to contact Scotia and Amex customers for products. Optima is limited to customer information when calling clients. Because you probably have an existing business relationship with one of the companies, they have a right to call you. If you do not want the calls, you can either let the agent from optima know, or contact scotia/amex and tell them you only want product information through the mail. For those who want to give an earful to the agent calling them - Realize that they are just trying to earn an honest living and doing their job. If you feel you are being harassed, kindly ask to speak to a manager; they will be glad to assist to remove you immediately from any further calls.
they will cal you especially if they ask you to press a button to remove you on the list...the reason they do that is to see if you have an active line so they could probly bill some stuff on your phone bill :(.
Here is what you do.....you call 1-416-581-1236 and talk to someone, anyone and waste their time. Call them again, and again, and again and again and, if I must say it...again! Then you get access to a fax and you bombard their fax machine with random faxes that have no meaning (careful not to write anything discriminating on it, like a threat). The fax number is 1-416-581-8878.
I made my first call today and told them to stop harassing me or I was filing a suit against them. I asked them to remove my name over a year ago. Oh and the great part about this company is how they boast "results driven" staff...hmm, not sure about you but if I had people calling my clients harassing them for days, months and years on end I would be pissed!
