Ben just called me also about my computer issue. I told him that I had several computers in front of me and he said it was the one running MS Windows. I told him all three were running windows and he hung up on me. How rude.

Received a call from this number at 1:09 p.m. saying there was a problem with my computer. I said I didn't have a problem. Later in the afternoon I found there was a problem. I would like to know who these people are and what they are about.

As others have suggested, this is a man with an Indian or other foreign accent, claiming to be calling from the MS Windows support team and asserting, "There are problems with your computer." I also hung up on him but not before telling him that I knew he was lying and that he takes people's money.

Two weeks ago, this same man called my 93-year-old father (who, unfortunately, had been having problems with his computer at the time) and made the same claims as those I've stated above. My father initially believed the call to be legitimate, tragically, and gave the man information he requested, including his email address and other information. Within a short minute or so, and with the information my father ignorantly provided, this man was able to hack into my father's computer and infect it with a virus that froze my father's computer. The man then informed my father that he had discovered a terrible problem with my father's computer and that my father would need to pay him $420 via credit card in order to resolve the problem and fix my father's computer. Luckily at that point my father hung up on the man; and when the man tried to call him back--THREE ADDITIONAL TIMES--my father again hung up each time.

My father took his computer to a local repair shop the next day where they were able to eliminate the virus and restore the computer. My father also had to change his email address and provider before restoring power to his computer. And he had to pay the local repairman $60 in labor.

DO NOT give this caller ANY information. He is a legitimate SCAM ARTIST, and talking to him will cost you. JUST HANG UP--as others have done.

We have received this type of call many times in the past few months. I am a computer tech myself with an AAS in Computer Technology, I have five computers in my own room as well as two more throughout the house, as well as the computer I repair. It is amazing to me that all seven of them (using MS Windows) run very well for all these "problems" reported to these people. As a matter of fact one such call came through the caller ID as "Fraudulent Caller".  The next call was from a different number. Don't fall prey to these abusive people...

Got several calls from this number with someone with a heavy accent but trying to mimic the American accent.  he said that his name was Michael and he was getting a signal from my windows computer.  He did not even know that I use a Mac and not a Windows computer.  I told him not to bother me as I do not use Windows, but he keeps calling back.  I refuse to answer the calls.  Very Annoying.

Just received a phone call from these people. Indian accent and reporting that there is something infecting my computer. I already know this is a scam, but play along ultimately revealing that I have a Mac although I really have Windows. This is the easiest test to see if it is a scam or not. When you state that you have a Mac whether you do or don't, they will always immediately hang up on you. Every time!!! If your caller ID defines Unknown Name, or Unknown Name and Unknown Number especially, it is often best just to not answer the phone. If it is a legitimate person attempting to contact you, they will most likely attempt to leave a message on your voice mail if you have it. That's my normal SOP if information is missing on the Caller ID. As M.R. said about these calls, "Very Annoying".

Caution - There is a Shill in this thread.  If busted under one name, they have a habit of coming back under other names.

The calls being reported point to an on-going scam.  The scammer will want access to your computer and from there either do nothing and change you for it, or do some data harvesting or leave a bug that they will then charge you to remove.  Microsoft will not call you!  Microsoft is NOT monitoring your computer and they NOT calling you to fix "errors"  Don't talk to these crooks.

I answered this call, suspecting that it's a scam.  I answered, "Hello, Sears Home Service..."   The caller did not respond.  I called the number, but it did not go through.

I got a call from this number and have gotten call from this and other numbers with the same person with the Indian accent. I have blocked the numbers and asked them not to call that my tech guy should be calling not him. He says that my computer is sending them messages that there is a problem but wont say what the problem is.  I just tell him I do not know who he is and not to call anymore and hang up. But yes very annoying and if you don't get them to hang up they will try everything to get your information. Don't answer or hang up. unless you have time to chat and laugh at all the crazy things they say trying to get your information.

Received call from this number this morning (423-414-2535) after he had called my 90 year old parents with this scam.  They didn't understand what he was wanting and told him he needed to call their daughter (thank goodness).  When he called me I assumed he had the wrong number as he said my mom wanted him to call me about their computer (which doesn't work and they don't use). After hearing from my mom that he actually had called her,  I tried calling him back to request that he not call my folks again but couldn't get through (phone disconnected or no longer in service).  Irritating when these scammers make these calls to elderly people!

Received call on my home number - overseas accent (I think Indian) - from same number (423-414-2535).  Said same thing as other notes above - my computer is sending out error messages and he would help me fix them.  He used my actual name but I just checked and my home number is listed so that explains that.  At any rate, I explained to him that I used an abacus - and I was sitting right next to it so let's get started fixing those error messages.  After saying that a couple of times - "click".  So, 'bye now!
