- Jo AnneGuy named Mike (thick Mumbai accent) called and identified my husband's name and phone number as associated with Windows PC program we purchased from Microsoft. A bit scary that this information can leave the hands of Microsoft to a 3rd party?!
We also are on the DO NOT CALL list, but that's managed by the FTC and about as empty as the No Child Left Behind act - - they both sound great, but there's nothing effective nor sustainable about either one.- Caller: Optimizepcservice.com
- Call type: Telemarketer
- Astonishing TalesRead these comments & you understand why the "I'm calling from windows" scam works.
- Lindsay FraserI had a call from "Jack" claiming to be working for Windows Technical Support and he asked if I was aware that my computer was sending viruses out. I gave him no details but asked for his number to call him back. What are these guys up to?
- Caller: supposewd ly Windows (by which I assume he meant Microsoft)
- pamI got 3 calls from them in 1 day. Caller claims to be from Microsoft Windows; says they have been monitoring a high number of problems with my Windows, and on my keyboard I must hold down the Windows key and the R key simultaneously, and they will give me instructions to run some type of diagnostic.....I was very suspicious because the call came from the weird area code phone # of "080-072-4469". I told him I was suspicious and wanted proof that he was from Windows; he put his supervisor Paul on the line. I again said I wanted a # to call them back on to prove they were from Windows and he said to call 424-256-3700. I did not call them back. I ran a McAfee virus scan and everything is OK on my computer. These are scammers!!

- jjl| 1 replyThis is the second time I got I received a call from Mike (thick accent again, probably India, but said he was in Chicago) and said the same thing as the people commenting above. I will be reporting this as often as they call. We are on a do not call list, and I intend to stop these calls. I intensesly dislike the intrusive manner of these calls and the implication that they know what is going on with your computer. I worry for people older than me who are trying to get some experience on their computer, and may be taken in by this type of scam, which is exactly what it is.

- jjlIn a follow up to my report directly above, I received another call from "Micheal". I told him that this was his third call this week, and I had told him yesterday I would call HIM back, after I verified and checked out the company. I also told him I had reported the company, on an online website yesterday, and I was on a do not call list. He kept interrupting me when I told him to take our number off their call list. When he kept talking I raised my voice and said "DO YOU UNDERSTAND that you are not to call me again, or I will report your calls to the FTC? at which time he actually said "I want to F-C- you!". NOW I am going to be reporting them to the FTC.

- lmlAfter numerous calls to my 80 year old mother (she hung up), I took the call from 800-724-469? (last digit does not display on caller id). "Jacob" gave me the same story you reported above. When I asked to speak to his supervisor, he wanted to know why, but finally "Bill" came on the line. I got the 424-256-3700 number from them, then I asked for a toll-free number to call them back. Again with the "why" and I said didn't trust what they were telling me and wanted to check it out. Then he asked me how old I was. When I kept pushing as to why he needed that information, he went off saying "you know, boobie size, etc." That's when I hung up. Additional calls and I, too, will file a report with FTC.

- Gene| 1 replyReceived a call from "Eric Johnson" (India accent) at "Windows Tech Support" wanting all kinds of computer information from me to stop my computer from "spreading all my personal information all over the Internet". Like others, I asked for his phone number, hung up, called 424-356-3700, another person with an India accent answered... both times I asked where they were located "LA" was always the answer... I asked if there were any US employees working there, the guy said no and hung up.
I'm sure the call came from India, I have looked at two articles about this scam on line, I reported the phone number on "donotcall.gov". Not much else I can do except warn my friends.- Caller: windows tech support
- Gene replies to GeneSorry.... number of Windows Tech Support in LA (right) was 424-256-3700.
- MarioYes, I got a call from some guy with an accent (Indian?) and told me my computer was giving out my personal information all over the internet. He wanted me to do something on my computer. I asked to speak to his supervisor. His supervisor also had an accent. I asked to speak with a U.S. speaking person. He said there was no U.S. speaking person and hung up.
- Caller: Windows
- AnnSame story as above, 424-256-3700 was the call back number to call "Chris Johnson". Told me he had to change his name when he came to this country. When will they stop this scamming.
- Caller: Windows (but I doubt it)
- RobbieHad several calls from a person saying his name was Max and that he was a supervisor for windows Tech support and that my computer was giving out all my personal information on the internet. I told him to give me a phone number to call him back and guess what, yep it was 424-250-3700. I have not and will not be calling that #.
- RobbieThe phone # was 424-256-3700
- Petesame as all of the above, called my business from 212 654 2312, or at least that is what came up on caller ID. I asked for a number to call him back at and "Alex" gave me 424 256 3700

- JeffGot a call from 424-256-3700 and sounds real similar to what everyone else is dealing with. It ended up being two Indian men. They called me saying that they were from Microsoft and that I had recently received a virus in my browser and they needed to reroute my IP address once and then twice to make sure. The accent on the first guy was soooo terrible that they thought they were sly and would switch off and I wouldn't notice. I asked for their call back number and I would call them back. He gave me too an american name "Brad Wilson", Yeah right. I then asked what department in Microsoft they were calling from and the idiot put his hand over the receiver and asked his friend "What department from Microsoft are we calling from?" I immediately asked him you work security for Microsoft, yet you don't even know what department you are calling from. I told him "Nice try chump, but I'm too smart for that game". Where there's smoke, there is fire people. Don't be affraid to call them out.
- DaveJust received a call from a "Daniel Brown" who said my personal information was being leaked on the internet and that he could fix it. He wanted me to install a remote desktop application (www.ammyy.com) that would give him complete control of my computer. I asked him what company he worked for and the phone number. He said he worked for Windows and the phone number was 424-256-3700. This a huge scam! I'm a software engineer and wanted to see how far he would take the call. I finally told him I would call him back. Just want to inform everyone of this threat.
- PuzzledCan only confirm the information of all the people called above. My caller was 'Robin Goodwin'!? Had a hard time understanding his heavy Indian (!?) accent. But also gave number to call back: 424-256-3700.
- Caller: Windows
