- Richard Dennis| 3 repliesI just won $900,000.00 for the gentlemen who called. I just told him to deposit that money in his own account.
- Shannon Smith| 1 reply425-206-5126 Guy stated I won $9,000 in grant money and wanted my info to deposit the money. No thanks your not hacking my accounts. He didn't speak very good english and I don't trust it!
- B. L.Male voice. Couldn't speak English well enough to be fully understood. Seemed like spam or a scam from what little I understood.
- Jill P.A woman said I won $9,000 in grant money from the federal government for paying my taxes and not being a criminal. She didn't speak very good English; she sounded Indian. It sounded like a scam within the first few seconds, so I hung up.
- W. MillerWhen told they were calling a DONotCall number he responded with a curse and hung up.
- T. RichardsGot a call from these people today and they said they were from the US Government Grants Department and then hung up.
- M. Reynolds| 1 replyCalled just a few minutes ago and said they were calling from the US Government Grants Department. They didn't confirm my name, just started talking to me and telling me I had been selected to receive a $9000 grant for paying my loans/taxes on time and not having a criminal record. I asked him how he got my contact information. He didn't answer the question, just said that he has my name, address, and phone number. I asked him to tell me again which department of the US Government he was calling from, and he said "The US Government Grant Department." And then I asked him if that was part of the treasury, education, etc. He said, "Treasury. So would you like to receive this grant?" I told him I was at work and would need to get the name of his company, the phone number to call back, and a reference number. He said, "Okay," and then he hung up. And I laughed...thought he could scam me...not gonna happen.
- Caller: "US Government Grant Dept." AKA scammers
- S. SpurrierSame story as the others - US Government Grant Department, I immediately stated "So this is a fake call?" and they proceeded to hang up.
- Karen replies to M. ReynoldsJust got a call from Michael saying the same thing. Pretty annoying to get calls like these on my cell phone.
- EricSame story as above, except I decided to play along with it until he asked me for my bank account number. I told him he was crazy for thinking that I'd actually give that info to him and that he should stop trying to rip people off. He proceeded to tell me that he was calling from the US government in DC, and when I asked him why my caller ID said Washington state, he replied "Uhhh" and then hung up. I got a good laugh out of it.
- JaredA woman called me, clearly reading a script - and was doing a poor job of it. She had a slight foreign accent, and said she was from - the "United States Currency Department" - which was funny in itself. She fumbled the script so badly, I couldn't help but laugh and ask her to repeat where she said she was calling from. She restarted her script and began restating that she was from "The United States Currency Dep-"...then she started laughing and hung up.
- JaredI forgot to mention she also told me I had won $9,000
- Noi HudsonCalled just a few minutes ago and said they were calling from the US Government Grants Department. They didn't confirm my name, just started talking to me and telling me I had been selected to receive a $9000 grant for paying my loans/taxes on time and not having a criminal record. I just hang up.
- MMSimilar, offer of a grant for $9000, I reported it to the FCC.
- LarryWoman with very heavy accent called and said she was with the US Goverment Grant Dept. Same story as the rest of the commentors. I let her go thru the script, interrupted her a few times until she wanted my account numbers, then told her to go scam someone else and then hung up on her. Since I had time to kill it took up several minutes that she couldn't be calling somebody else.
- SoonToBe$9000richerWow it's amazing how these guys are just giving money away. As I was just sitting here pondering how I, a broke college kid, could be able to pay my bills this month. Just then, this girl who sounds like she's from India (on a staticy most likely routed call from [***] no where) calls me up and tells me the government want's to give me $9,000.00! Just like that! No string attached. What a deal!
Of course I knew it was totally [***], but what if it wasn't?! WHAT IF IT WASN'T!!! Ugh.
Okay on a serious note, we all know this has scam written all over it. others have reported it here as well.
Moral of the story: If it's too good to be true then it probably is. Don't fall for it.
Number Called: (425) 206-5126
Location Server: WA, USA- Caller: Government Grant?
- WCHThe same as the others reporting, $9000 grant from Government Grants Department. Said she could put it on a gift card but I would have to provide the gift card. Said she would have to transfer me to New York after I gave her all the information. Wanted to know what I would use the money for.
- DoubtingThomasMy lucky day. Caller in scripted English says I am being granted $9,000 for paying my taxes and for having no criminal record. Haha. I told him that I had a speeding ticket several years ago; does that count as no criminal record? He replied, "makes no difference, we want to send the money to you today." Good, I said. He said transfer of funds only by electronic fund transfer (EFT). I told him I did not like my bank and they are too noisy and gossiping all of the time --- So please send money in $20 USD. He said only wire transfer. I told him I prefer cash only and please place all of it in brown envelope. He proceeded to give phone to another agent that began by going through the entire script again, word for word. I finally said OKAY, OKAY. Maybe 450 twenty dollar bills too much postage. Okay, please send only 90 bills in $100 USD currency; less postage. Strange, then phone went dead. My wife of 44 years brought me a piece of apple pie. My lucky day.
- Caller: He says US Govt Grants Dept.
- Michael CovingtonCalled once, on my cell phone, and didn't say anything.
- LauraSame experience as above. Called on my cell. I put him on speaker phone so my husband could listen. We knew it was a scam but played along for several minutes. When he asked for bank acct number, we told him we knew he was a scam. He became enraged and kept saying f-you and f-off. After stopping laughing at him, we hung up.
