This is a robo call claiming to be the IRS. They say they are filing a lawsuit against me. The voice and message are identical to another number, (202)239-7576, that has already been identified as a scam designed to steal money and/or social security numbers.

Second call this week from this number and a 202 number which is actually in DC.  The numbers are (425) 318-7834 (like the IRS has a collection agency in King County (Seattle) WA....  and the other (202) 684-6530 -- People please...
the IRS does not CALL they send notices.

Said that I was being sued, from teh IRS, but get nothing but a busy signal when i call back.  After reading here, I guess I'll skip calling them, thanks.

Prank caller (recording) indicated the IRS has filed a lawsuit against me (funny, they didn't indicate who I was).

Received an identical call. Indian guy claiming IRS was going to arrest me. I told them that I wasn't that stupid to believe the IRS would just call and threaten arrest and hung up.

I can't believe that the real IRS has not shut down these scammers, where's the NSA wiretapping when you really need them. I feel sorry for the elderly who fall for this crap. The real IRS will contact you via mail only.

Just received a call from this number claiming I was being sued by the IRS. Called back and no one answered.

Oh, and the IRS does not SUE... You would get a summons...

Got the same call!   Sounded like a scam from the get-go.  I think the IRS would send a certified letter.  Going to just ignore it.

I got a call from them last night on my answering machine. I called back and got to a person. They claimed to be Officer Kim Tyler (with an Indian accent), and badge number IRM0156, and that I was having an arrest warrent issued in my name for my taxes from 2008 -2013. I did not get to the point of them asking for money, though they told me how much I owed. I am now calling the Federal IRS number 1-800-829-1040 and posting a complaint, and giving them all the information I have.

This kind of stuff sucks, and the FBI should be cracking down on these bozos.

These are criminal extortionists operating in overseas boiler rooms using VOIP to alter their identities and locations and out of the reach of US law enforcement.

It's a phone scam.In fact, it tops the IRS "Dirty Dozen" list of tax scams this year, and it's been surging in recent months, the agency said Thursday.

The Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration (TIGTA), which oversees the IRS, has received reports of 290,000 scam calls since October 2013 and said nearly 3,000 victims have been swindled out of $14 million so far.

By altering their caller ID number to make it look like they're calling from an IRS office, these scammers often threaten vulnerable people like the elderly and new immigrants with things like arrest, deportation or the loss of their driver's license if they don't pay immediately for money purportedly owed.

Often leaving messages that say it's "urgent" you call them back, the scammers use common names and sometimes say they are from the IRS Criminal Division. They may even claim to know the last four digits of your Social Security number and send follow-up emails that appear to be from the IRS, TIGTA said.

They often demand that payments be made by prepaid debit card.

Once they make their threats, the scammers have been known to call back and again disguise their caller ID so it appears they are calling from the police department or the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV).

Or sometimes when they call, they may say you have a refund due and ask you to provide personal information so you can claim it.

The real IRS will usually contact you by regular mail first, if it needs to contact you at all. And the agency never demands immediate payment by phone or asks for credit card or debit numbers if they do call. It also never asks for personal or financial information by email, text or social media.
