got a call that I couldn't take from this number. I called back, and recording says it's not in service.

I have a Samsung Galaxy Note III and it has a feature that allows the owner to block all calls that do not come from people on their contact list. Every person who I want to call me is on my contact list. The phone doesn't even ring if someone other than people on that list try to call.

Call from this unknown # but when I picked up the other person hung up.

Your caller is a scammer.  How many calls do you get from the following:  Office Depot,  Lowes,   Ace hardware,   furniture stores,  grocery stores offering bargains of the day,  Auto insurance companies,  Home builders,   various constructions contractors,  Car dealerships salesmen,  Hospitals and Doctors trying to sell their services,   Legitimate local Lawyers in your community,  Walgreens and wal-mart offering  specials,  Restaurants soliciting your patronage,  Book stores special sales,  Tire companies,   Auto service and Oil change soliciting business,  Banks and financial institutes,   Legitimate lending companies offering special interest rates,  and the list will go on for the millions of legitimate American businesses who are now  NOT calling you.  I hope that answers you question.  The same question that is asked a hundred times each day on this board by those who haven't got a clue as to how the DNC works.
Well,   you can thank the Do Not Call Registry for that.   The DNC is why these businesses honor the list of those who do not want to be called.   Scammers,  Scofflaws  and criminals do not honor anything and the DNC was not set up to deal with them.  Your criminals are reported to the appropriate government agency and police.    The DNC is just   "A LIST'!
It only deals with  Legitimately American businesses who Telemarket ,  and are Registered with the FTC and entered into their data base,  and are required to purchase monthly and honor the list or it is a 10K-16K fine.    The DNC was not created to do anything else.   Registered Telemarketers who phone you  and attempt to sell you goods or services are held accountable by the FTC by simply pulling their files.    Scammers hidden in the basement of a Mumbai slum are not the responsibility of the DNC.....they fall under the Heading of Fraud,  Thieves,  extortionists,  and Criminals.

I just received a call fro there as well.  I returned the call and also got a not in service message

I receive calls from this number. I answer but no one talks and then hangs up. If I dial back it says not in service. How is that possible?

Called and no one said anything. Then hung up. Weird.

It's possible it could be some sort of phone-routing scam (from jails). Though this is likely a cell phone number.

Answered and said hello, no noise on other line, hung up in couple seconds.. Strange

Got a call a few minutes ago and I don't answer numbers I don't know, allowing them to leave a message. No message left. Blocking if they call back.

received a call from this number 435-206-9539 and pressed 1 as the prompt said to speak to a rep.  When she got on the phone I told her I am on the do not call list and to not call me again. She arrogantly said "hello I am calling you so apparently you're not on the list!"  I hung up!  This infuriates me. Why have a list if they don't adhere to it!

Just received another call but my App caught & Blocked it.  GREAT APP.  It's called: CALL BLOCKER & it's available for Free on The Play Store site.
