Yet another Portfolio Recovery ASSociates #.

These a**holes. Portfolio Recovery Associates, have called twice today already, and it's only a bit past 1pm...they cannot deny it, as they always comply with the law  -- now  -- and use their name in the caller ID, ever since the attorney general's office contacted their liaison with state atty. general offices, a lawyer named Brian Pearson.  I think he needs a refresher course at Arizona law school, as he himself wrote a letter stating that they sent out the (fraudulent) 1099-C after the decision was made to "cease" collection efforts on this "account." So far, they have called 83 times since they "ceased" collection efforts in September, 2010.  

Or maybe they have dreamed up a "new" account  -- they told the atty general there are two accounts. Trouble is, they have never sent a letter regarding any "account" other than the original one, so they would be in violation of the federal law on that as well.

Not that they can verify any debt, as the lawyer admitted in writing that all they have is a printout from a bundled pkg. of written-off debts (for which they paid pennies, if not less, on the dollar). They claim they bought the debt in 2001, and he admits they never started trying to "collect" on it until eight years later, in 2009. By then, any credit card I had ever owned had been cut into pieces 12 years prior!  Go figure. These vermin need to be exterminated.

Yea this is pretty funny, I get these all the time but never answer, this debt is 13 yrs old and was only about 300 bucks that my ex didnt pay that he was suppose too. Now they send stuff saying they will settle for like 3000..let them keep trying Statue of Limitations was met after the first 4 yrs..

I did see in a local paper recently that they sued a non-payment debt for over $1000 a couple of weeks ago here in North Carolina. We have a policy that if we do not recognize the number then we do not answer the phone; if it is important a message is always left. No message, a junk call.

Received a call from this outfit today, a Sunday at 2:54 PM, asking for my son, who doesn't live with us nor have I heard from him in several years.  Told them that but I bet they call again.  Caller ID displayed Strongsville, OH.

Nothing on caller ID, no message.  Thanks for letting me know I have yet another number to add to my Portfolio list....  also a debt WAY past statute....

I have a problem with the concept that any of use "owes" these bottom-feeders anything. We did not ever receive goods or services from them, we never contracted with them in any way, we never agreed to have a business relationship with them. Then they jack up the amount of the debt we may originally have owed to the company we did do business with by qa factor of two or three, at the same time they 'bought' the so-called debt for somewhere between fifty cents and $3 per hundred dollars of the original debt.  And then, yes, the statute of limitations is usually long past expired, so that they cannot legally pursue in court, unless they use fake documents signed by a dead woman (as PRA has in fact done). Their only expectation of getting any $$$$$s out of their victims is by pure bullying and intimidation  -- it is an extortion scam, made more or less legal by The Best Congress Money Can Buy.

They call my cell phone and thank god there is a service called privacy star that allows me to block just their numbers.. So now my phone doesn't even ring when they call it just hangs up on them... Love this service... I suggest it to everyone...

Portfolio Recovery calls our landline several times a day, including on Saturdays and Sundays. They sometimes call before 8 am and after 10 pm. We do not have any unpaid debt or any written-off debt, as we always pay our bills and always pay on time. They may be calling about one of our adult sons who has not lived with us in 4 years. I thought they would stop calling if no one ever answered the phone, but they still call several times a day and have been doing it for months. I am planning on going to the store and buying a very good coaches whistle and everytime they call, I am going to pick up the receiver and blow the whistle into it as hard as I can. Maybe after a few of their employees have had their eardrums busted, they will stop harrasing us!

The whistle is a great idea if... you want to wait to see if someone "live" picks up the phone. The trouble is that these are auto dialers and sometimes they are programmed to see what time the phone is picked up. So their computers know the best time to call to get a hold of you. That is another reason why it is extremely important to NEVER answer their calls. Also sending them a certified letter asking for proof of debt and then disputing it and then a cease and desist letter for their calls. Once they get these letters they know they become liable in court as they've been sued successfully numerous time and for damages. I'm just waiting for someone to do a class action against them. Put them out of business for good!

Got a call from this number today in strongsville, ohio and see from these posts that it is Port Folio Recovery.  I never answer the phone unless I know who is calling.  They are always trying to call me using Out of Area, Unknown Name, Undeliverable numbers.  So, I never answer the phone and I am the only one here.  My vechicle was repossessed in 2007, and they sold it at auction for $2700, and they are still trying to collect $18,000!!  I am now on Disability, so there is no way they can collect.  The only debts that can be collected from my disability check is Child Support (but I am a woman with a 26 year old son), IRS, and student loans.  So, there is no way Port Folio can ever collect from me. But let them try.

they don't show their name on caller ID! All mine shows is city, state and number. I always have to look it up - I've begun keeping track of phone numbers they use and which company - have filed two compliants with my attorney general's office.
