Called my parents' home phone - haven't give that number out in YEARS. When my mother said I wasn't there, they said quickly, "Ok there will be no message."

Claims to be asking for money for breast cancer.  If they are this unprofessional & can't even show their company name, I know it is AT BEST a paid telemarketer that keeps most of any donation.  More likely, they're just another scammer looking for easy cash.  Either way, I do NOT donate money unless I KNOW most of it  goes to the actual cause!

NOTE: I called the number back (masking my own Caller ID) & got a recording that STILL doesn't identify the cause OR the company making the call.  Just mentions "if you're not interested in donating" & "our fundraising call".  You can't speak to a rep OR leave a message.  SCAMMER ALERT!

    5/11/15                  8:05 pm                        no message.

My voice mail recording specifically states, "if this is a solicitation of any kind, I will report your number  to the FTC..."

Which is pretty much totally useless since these criminals use computers to dial thousands of numbers and no actual person will hear that message.  Also, if they are overseas and/or using a spoofed number, they pretty much don't care.
The one good thing is to keep reporting them to the DNC so that a pattern can be developed which will aid in figuring out who they are and if they can be prosecuted, they will be.

Claimed to be raising funds for underprivileged women to get mammograms as part of the Breast Cancer Research Institute.  When asked how much of the funds raised actually go to the charity, a whole 15%!  Which means 85% is spent bugging more people for money.  it pays to ask for the admin costs.  I don't think they fall under a non-profit in this situation.

Called my cell on Sunday at 02:00 pm asking for Diane.  I replied no one by that name lives here.  She then tried to get me to donate for Breast Cancer Research for underprivileged women.  I told her I already donate to a Houston organization and she wanted to know which one.  I hung up.

Got a very sketchy series of texts from this number responding to a tutoring ad I placed on Craigslist. They claimed it was for their daughter. I suggested meeting at a public library and they asked for my home address to send a check to pay me before tutoring started because they'd be in Canada for a month on business.

    Craigslist Scam:

The scam works like this.  They think your item as described is perfect.  They might ask a few questions about it, and then will pay your asking price, sight unseen, because they are never around close by to come look at it (they use the stationed somewhere in the military a whole lot).  They will give you an extra $40 or $50 to old it for them.  Then they tell you they will send a cashier’s check or money order for that amount plus extra for the “shipper”.  They ask you to wire that extra money by untraceable means such as Western Union or Moneygram.  The check or money order turns out to be bogus and you end up out the money you sent plus the bank fees.  Also, if the check is big enough you may end up being charged criminally.  Take the check and the envelope it came in to the post office and have them forward it to the postal inspectors.
