- Call type: Telemarketer
- Metal| 3 repliesReceived a call from this number on my cell phone 10 minutes ago, didn't pick up, got the following lovely voice mail, consisting of two pre-recorded sound bites with a rich Texan accent:
0:00-0:02 "This is Keith Doherty, how are you doing today?"
0:04-0:05 "Are.. are you there?"
Followed by 2:55 seconds of complete silence, until my voicemail system presumably hung up on them.
From a quick search, this is a new number for an old scammer.
See https://800notes.com/Phone.aspx/1-972-597-2774 for more of the same. - JmiGot a text message saying: "Can I call you later?"
I didn't respond.- Caller: Unk

- Randall| 3 repliesMore crooks trying to steal money from us old folks. Go get them and put them in jail.
These callers violate my right to privacy, harass and terrorize myself and others, illegally spoof their caller IDs and illegally call cellular phone numbers.
Filed the above complaint with the National Do Not Call Registry. Suggest others do likewise. They have the authority to take action and need the complaints filed in order to do so. Complaining here at 800notes.com will not result in any action being taken.
https://complaints.donotcall.gov/complaint/complaintcheck.aspx - Styro| 5 repliesThe caller had a rich Texas accent, but something about the call was too clean. There was no background noise whatsoever. After the caller identified himself as Keith Doherty, I engaged him in conversation. I asked him if he was real, to which he responded, "Of course I'm real, why would you ask?" I said he didn't sound real, to which he giggled and then asked, "Can we continue?" I'm still convinced it was a robot, but he darn near passed the Turing test. Wanted money for cops.
- Caller: Some organization for cops

- GC| 1 replyGot a call from 469-470-0999 just a minute ago. Don't answer phone numbers that I do not recognize (and don't answer some that I do recognize ... lol). Why should I waste my valuable time with these scamming jerks!?! Hmmm ...... just another number to put on my block list. Sure, they will probably call from a different spoofed number, but, hey, no problem, there is plenty of room of my block list. :)
- GC replies to jayYeah! Sure they are! They are hustling for themselves ... that is who they are hustling for.
- papi replies to GCI'm with u gc.....I got PLENTY of block space on my phone
- GG replies to Styro| 4 repliesWow… That's kinda creepy haha
- B-Edwards replies to GG| 3 repliesIf it was one of the interactive recording systems, they are becoming better and more common. One test is you will be channeled into yes/no questions. Most telemarketers do that too, but the machines have a few number of answer/questions, they will start to repeat themselves. When you ask a question, the machine is listening for key words and phrases to try to keep the sale moving forward. if you alternate nonsense statements and questions with nonsense statements and question that have the key words in them, it is interesting so see how long you can string the machine along.
The better machines also listen for the rise in inflection that comes with a question. You can sometimes have fun with this, if you can make non-sense statements that have a rise in inflection, but no question is asked.
If you ask the same question over and over, after 2-3 cycles of repetition, the call will end. Most of the systems either kill the call or get you to a live person. I know talking to these systems is a zero sum game, just like talking to any scammer. But Lord Help me, I hate Robots. - Annoyed Office ManagerPre-recorded message about home and business security systems at no charge for installation. Press 1 to learn more Press 9 to be removed.
Received two calls within 10 minutes of each other - first one caller ID said "Out of Area" no number available - second came up as "Lewisville, TX" with a phone displayed of 469-470-0999.
Both calls I pressed 1 to speak to someone, heard a ton of background noise before a foreign thick accented voice said "Thank you for calling, this is XXXXXXX how can I help you?" I said nothing but played a loud annoying recording and hung up.- Caller: Security System Scam

- delcoAnother one of the 6 to 12 calls I get every day from scammers. Unfortunately, my business number is on the internet, as it has to be. Fortunately, I too have plenty of room on my block list, but the 10 to 15 minutes I have to spend checking numbers and blocking them every day is getting to be a major PITA. The phone companies and government could stop this if they wanted to. I see in last months Consumer Reports that the elderly are getting scammed out of 3B a year. Despicable scum of the earth. They'll get theirs eventually.
- Caller: Google Scammers

- DougGot a call from "Lewisville TX".. Answered and quickly realized I wasn't talking to a real person, but one of those interactive marketing systems as B-Edwards described above. That's the first of these I'd heard - it's fairly sophisticated. They were pretending to be from the Texas Coalition of Police and Sheriffs - one of those groups that tries to scam you in the name of law enforcement. I reported it to the new FCC complaint site at https://consumercomplaints.fcc.gov/hc/en-us?r ... n-us%2Frequests.

- AnnieDid not answer. I did not recognize the # & I don't give my cell phone # out.
- jebJust received another call from this number. Get about 2 to 3 a month. I do not answer anymore since 1st one tried to solicit donation and did not want to take no for an answer.
- Disgruntled PostmanWell known fake charity that says they are soliciting funds to "help wounded and killed police officers and their families." Only problem is, they spend most of the money for staff and fundraising and very little on "helping" anyone.
They are NOT a charitable org. They are NOT non-profit. And your donations to them are NOT tax deductible.
There's a page about these people and those like them on the Texas Attorney General's website.

- Barry replies to B-EdwardsI find it useless to engage these robots OR live persons in conversation - I can do far more wise things than that with my time. Besides, once you pick up their call, they know you're still receiving calls and become a prime target for future calls for money. I just mute them and go about my day's work.
- Linda RossI answered the call and then it would not go away even though I hit the hang up button. Just continued to go on and on.
