    Got a phone call from this number. They tried to verify my name and if I was going to be home tomorrow.  Said they were from civil procedures division but wouldn't tell me what county etc. I would not verify any info. Called the county clerk and there are no summons under my name. I filed a report with the county fraud department. Don't answer this number.

    The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:

    •is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
    •refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
    •asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
    •exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.

    If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:

    •Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
    If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you.

    •Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.

    •Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft – charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.

    •Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate – but you think the collector may not be – contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.

    •Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.

    SCAM ARTISTS! They are trying to collect on debts that don't exist or are beyond the statute of limitations. Don't let them bully or scare you into thinking this is legit because it is not!

    Got call from 470-237-2331 on my cell phone.  Guy said his name was Bruce? something and that someone would be here to serve papers tomorrow and would someone be home between certain hours.  I told him I didn't know who he was and it was none of his business if anyone would be home or not.  He said that it sounded like I had a problem and I wasn't going to take it out on him!  Then he hung up, lol.  I never verified who I was or anything else.  Scam written all over it!

    I got a call from this number 470-237-2331 from Atlanta , GA on my cell this morning , when i answered there was no one there , I called it back and it just rang and rang , about an hour later my home phone rang....guess who ? Same number !!! I picked up and said hello , the woman on the other end proceeded to tell me her name , there was no info of what company she was calling from and didn't ask to speak with anyone in particular until I asked her who she was looking for . She said someone will be by on Monday between 9am and 4pm to deliver legal documents and wanted to know if that person was going to be home (and used my married last name to refer to me , which my last name isn't that anymore as I have been divorced since 2010 ) I didn't tell her she was reaching the person she was looking for and told her i didn't understand what she wanted.....she then repeated herself and asked "What didn't you understand about what I just said ??" First of all I don't live anywhere near Georgia and I have no reason that would cause "an unknown someone" to deliver any legal documents to my house for any reason !!! SCAM.....SCAM.....SCAM !!!!! Beware !!!!!

    I get calls like this all the time. I thoroughly enjoy playing along and wasting their time...keeps the uninformed safer. The longer I keep them going, the less time they have to scam others. Keep them on the line and string them along. I will even go as far as to auto redials when possible.

    Got a call today from Mr. Steve Brown (Braun?). In his message he said he was investigating a fraud case from my county. He's in Georgia, I'm in PA. called my mom and told her he was investigating a case from a bank that had a similar name to mine. I called my bank ( a local credit union), they don't have that phone number in their records and my account and information was fine. Reported it to my local police and the cop chuckled when I said the guy's name because he just had a complaint earlier about the same name..said he was investigating for the IRS.....big time scammer.

    I received two calls - one Friday night at 9:01 and one this morning at 7:16 AM. The one on Friday left a 3 minute message and sounded like a butt dial. Either way, if this isn't a scam I will be collecting on them - it is illegal for a third party debt collector to call outside of the hours of 8-9 in your time zone. I'm 100% certain this is a scam - I'm a former collection manager.
