- Desmond| 4 repliesJust received a VM from470-448-3361. Woman identified herself as being from Wilkerson and Associates and said they "had a pending claim and needed a statement from me." She asked for a name I changed almost 10 years ago. Stuttered when leaving phone number and transposed area code the first time.
Based on comments in other threads about calls from this company (from other phone numbers), it seems like a scam.- Caller: Wilkerson and Associates
- Sandy replies to Desmond| 1 replyI just now got a call from the same lady...and said the exact thing. However, she said my dad's name not mine so I thought that was weird.
- Alfalfa replies to SandyHow can I verify whether or not a debt collector is legitimate?
Here are a few warning signs that could signal a debt collection scam:
The debt collector threatens you. Legitimate debt collectors probably won't claim that they'll have you arrested or claim that they or their employees are law enforcement officers.
The debt collector refuses to give you information about your debt or is trying to collect a debt you do not recognize. You have certain rights to ask a debt collector to verify the debt. You can use this sample letter to request this information. Ask for an explanation in writing before you pay.
The debt collector refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number.
The debt collector asks you for sensitive personal financial information. You should never provide anyone with your personal financial information unless you are sure they're legitimate.
If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:
Ask the caller for his or her name, company, street address, telephone number, and professional license number. Many states require debt collectors to be licensed. Check the information the caller provides you with your state officials, or the state in which the debt collector holds a license. If the caller refuses or is unable to provide you with information about his company, or if you can’t verify the information he provides, do not give money to the caller or company.
Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." This notice must include:
The amount of the debt
The name of the creditor you owe
A description of certain rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act
If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, consider requesting this information in writing or seeking assistance before paying the debt to make sure the debt, and the company, are valid.
Tip: You can consider sending the collector a letter requesting the information by using one of the CFPB's sample letters. You can also submit a complaint to the CFPB or you can contact your state Attorney General’s office.
Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know the company or person you are talking with is a real debt collector. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft such as:
Charging your existing credit cards
Opening new credit card or checking accounts
Writing fraudulent checks
Taking out loans in your name
Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate – but you think the collector may not be – contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.
Report the call. Submit a complaint with the CFPB or get in touch with your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers.
Stop speaking with the caller. If nothing else works and you believe the calls are fraudulent, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files.
Tip: You can use this sample letter to write a letter demanding the debt collector stop contacting you. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.
Tip: If you're having trouble with debt collection, you can submit a complaint with the CFPB online or by calling (855) 411-CFPB (2372).

- JeffHave been receiving calls daily from this number, looking for someone I have never heard of. Since no company name is ever given, I assume it's a scammer. Here is a transcript of the voice-mail that is left just about every day. Like she's reading from a script.
"This is an important message for Byron Thompson. Byron I have been trying to reach you I've left you several messages and you've not returned any of my calls this an important matter in the office here that needs to be addressed I have a claim that's been filed for proceedings against you. I need a formal statement from you or your attorney and I need that by the close of business today at 5 PM Eastern standard Time so I can put an administrative hold on the proceedings if you do not contact my office I cannot guarantee your protection and release from involvement in this matter. My name is Marie Harris. My direct number is 470-448-3350"- Caller: Didn't leave company name
- Susan Graythis company keeps calling my number for someone I have never heard of. I have informed them for almost 2 years that the phone number they are calling is a number that I have had for over 10 years and don't know anyone by that name. They keep telling me they will remove my number, but they don't. I have a pre-pay cell phone and they are using up my minutes. They call at least once day, sometimes more. I did find out they are located in Georgia and I am going to file a complaint with the attorney general in that state. When I informed them of this, they hung up on me. Complain will be filed first thing tomorrow morning.
- Caller: they wll not tell me. All I have is the phone nymber

- BenI received a call from this number claiming they were "Wilkerson and Associates" as well. They accused me of not paying back a payday loan 3 years ago through Rise or NOC. Those are companies I had never heard of before they mentioned them. This came completely out of left field. They stated I received an email, but could not list a date. Said that it was either in "2011 or 2013" that the loan was provided.
The first time I was contacted by a female, who stated that the amount was for $500. I lost signal, and called back to speak with Rich, who indicated the amount was $1555. They stated that they were an arbitration office, and were going to move forward with the case if I didn't resolve the matter. Because of the inconsistency, it has to be a scam. If this was a serious matter, then documentation should be sent through mail and they would also be able to list dates and consistent dollar amounts.
A disturbing bit of information was that they had access to my social security number, and stated they were doing a "background check" as I was speaking to them. However, the only address they had on file was a temporary one from my undergraduate college.
Immediately, I contacted TransUnion, the Federal Trade Commission, and Consumer Financial Protection Bureau to report this issue.- Caller: Claimed to be Wilkerson & Associates

- unluckyinlaI have received calls from this organization 4 months ago. They called my aging inlaws and threatened them. They called my cell and my home. They claimed to have a suit against me and if I contacted them immediately it would prevent me from going to jail. We ran a credit report and mine is just short of the highest available. No outstanding or pending issues, no credit judgements. So I blocked their number and all those listed on their web site. Then a month later I got more calls from a different person at the same organization from a different number. Blocked them. Again, received more calls from them with a different number. Blocked them.
Saw the feed with the addresses. Here's my suggestion: Let's all send them a package of dog crap with a note that more will be forthcoming if they don't stop their crap!- Caller: D Wilkerson & Associates
