Said that I needed to call immediately to avoid felony prosecution by the U.S. Treasury.  When I tried to call back there was no ring at all.  Voice sounded South African perhaps.  Seeing I have no pending action with the U.S. Treasury I can only assume its a hoax.....especially when I couldn't call back.

Yes, these idiots called this morning. Caller ID was Bridgeport CT. Spoofed for sure. There has been so much talk about the FCC and the Phone Companies doing something to stop this. So far, all talk and no action. Verizon allows me to block 10 numbers at the Central Office, so I don't even get one ring. How hard would this be to offer a new service (of course $) that would allow me to block any number of calls. Wake up Phone Companies, you are missing a revenue opportunity. For now I'll add this number to the 2,000 calls that I already block.

    You are what you do
Yes, I got a call with message left on answering machine repeating three times to have the same message as the previous caller in the nature with if you do not call back, you are in serious situation for indictment type of garbage threatening.

The caller is like a pest, skunk, and put themselves as sub-human condition when they carried out such acts to other people in the lives.  They forgot each action they take to scam other people is from their choice of use their energy to create negative consequences in their own lives.  I hope they see the danger in themselves to create such dark negative karma in their own lives.  They will only cause harm to themselves when they allow themselves to corrupt their own spirit and soul to commit such act.

I seriously HOPE they wake up to their own conscience to STOP such bad acts toward others to cause back  fire in their own body, mind and soul.  it will get  rotten inside the self.  There is no positive and healthy energy entering the body, mind and soul when they do these acts in the world to anyone!!!  The more anyone keep doing bad acts to others, the worse it will be to their own body, mind and soul.  And that is the real TRUTH in life.  You become what you do repeatedly!!  Take this as a good warning Steve Martin or whatever your name is in real life and do yourself a favor to think over again what you do!

These guys called my house 4 times within 2 hours.  Finally they left a message about being with the US Treasury.  First, the US Treasury will not call you.  They would send you a certified letter. I hope no one falls for this scam.

Got the same call today... can the authorities not do anything about this?

Nobody can do anything at the present time.  The callers are hard core Indian and Pakistani scammer/extortionists and as such beyond the reach of US law.  Local authorities do little if nothing to stop the illegal call-centers.  Invest in a call blocker.

Actually there is something you can do.  Complain to the IRS and let them go after the perps.  This from IRS.gov - What to do if you receive a suspicious IRS-related communication:

If you receive a phone call from someone claiming to be from the IRS but you suspect they are not an IRS employee ...
    1.    Record the employee's name, badge number, call back number and caller ID if available.
    2.    Call 1-800-366-4484 to determine if the caller is an IRS employee with a legitimate need to contact you.
        -   If the person calling you is an IRS employee, call them back.
->  If not, report the incident to TIGTA and to us at  phishing@irs.gov (Subject: 'IRS Phone Scam')

3 messages left over a 2-day period - a lot of static but male states:  "Hi, this message is intended to contact you.  My name is Steve Martin and I am calling regarding an [IRS?] deduction executed by the US Treasury intending you see this attention.  Ignoring this will be an intentional second attempt to avoid an initial appearance before a Magistrate Judge or a grand jury for a federal criminal offense.  My number is 475-422-7290.  I repeat, 472-422-7290.  I advise you to cooperate with us and help us to help you.  Thank you."  At the end is what appears to be a girl's voice in background saying:  "Goodbye."

Most reverse look-ups indicate this is a Bridgeton/Meriden, CT number - but - mrnumber.com/1-475-422-7290 pinpoints a LANDLINE, cross streets N Orchard and Lee Avenue in Wallingford, CT.  Friends in our same area have received similar calls from a Maryland number.

Since this number was spoofed, that is most likely an innocent party.  These slime dogs are usually located in India, hence the accents and the inability for real Americans to understand them.

These people are from India using a MajickJack phone system through the Internet. That's why it's not easy for the U.S. Or the phone companies to stop them. They just keep getting a MajickJack
