    Tired of Scammers
Another day, another scam. This company sent me a postcard a few days ago saying it was time to service my A/C system, and today they called and hung up on my answering machine.

Just another stinking scam and violation of the (toothless) Do Not Call list!

Caller ID shows "WESTERN STATES" along with the phone number.  You can keep your hands off of my A/C system.  Call ignored.  But I'm sure they'll try calling again.  This was a previous annoying "regular," so I guess they have started up again with the nuisance calls.

Another attempt to violate the fact that I am on the do not call registry.  Why do I bother?  It doesn't seem to stop the phone calls

It appears your understanding of the Do Not Call list is ... faulty.  Here is a short summary of the facts, that might fit your intellect:

    1.  The DNC list is NOT a call blocker!
    2.  The DNC list is used by honest telemarketers, to avoid calling people who do not want to be called.
    3.  Scammers and spammers do not care ... those criminals call anybody.
    4.  The DNC list is NOT a call blocker!  (Just in case you missed reading #1)

Here's a response that might fit your intellect (but it's probably way too advanced for you). The commenter was obviously complaining that the DNC registry is worthless, which it pretty much is. The FTC doesn't enforce it at all. Sure, Sears, General Motors, and IBM don't call, but every scammer on the planet does. The DNC registry was established in 2003 and I probably receive more unsolicited telemarketing calls than I did 12 years ago. Complaining to the FTC is a waste of time. Simple enough for you? I can post this again if your reading comprehension isn't equal to your inflated ego. Now go back to your job as a shoe salesman at K-Mart.

You guys are really arguing about this? This is for comments about the phone number.  No one needs stupid comments about the dnc list.

.... which is why we'd like to correct and supplant the stupid comments with appeals to reason. Crabby complaints that "duh DNC does nuttin', duh gubbament's a waste" indicate a fundamental lack of understanding of what those institutions are meant to accomplish.

Be sure to clear up a few hours to apply your "reading comprehension" to years of lawsuits against violators of the FTC Act, the TCPA, and the Telemarketing Sales Rule, which "the FTC doesn't enforce at all".

Enforcement of the Do Not Call Registry  (summary, links)
    http://www.ftc.gov/news-events/media-resource ... try/enforcement

Robocalls and the Do Not Call Registry  (summary, links)
    http://www.ftc.gov/news-events/media-resources/do-not-call-registry/robocalls

Regulators cannot issue a strike force to nuisance callers every time your phone rings and they never promised as much. If you're unhappy with that arrangement, find your callers and sue them yourself for TCPA violations, as is your right. Maybe then you'll feel the same frustration the Feds endure when defendants hide themselves behind shell companies, multiple aliases, cheap VOIP, and Caller ID spoofing.

While you're at it, you can do a better job of withholding your phone number from every supermarket, pharmacy, retail store, online merchant, contest, social media site, and dippy girl at a sales counter asking for it. If you want "Da Gubmint" to follow you around wiping your bottom, feel free to relocate to a total police state.

Says WESTERN STATES on caller ID  I didn't answer it because I'm lazy and with a name like that I didn't want to talk to them anyway. They didn't leave a message.

Easy fix. Just call 480 345-2665 and ask to be removed. Simple. Suggest that if any more calls are to be received, BBB and Arizona State Attorney General Mark Brnovich will be notified.

We get a rash of calls from this # every few weeks. Caller ID shows "WESTERN STATES".  Never leaves a message and I have never answered the call.  This is a legit company but will not honor the "do not call list".  You would think they could at least leave a message instead of these bursts of frequent calls (like so many others).  Will never do business with them.....

If you have Cox Cable phone service push *60 after the call and listen for the prompts. It will tell you to push #01# and that will block the last call received. I use this a lot. I just blocked Western States.

Seems like a repeat of last August when I started getting unsolicited calls from WESTERN STATES A/C service.  They started calling again this week.  Don't know why, but they do not honor my request to not call back.  Even if I did need service I would choose some one else based on their treatment.
