Received a message from Stacey Foster, Special Investigator. Did not state a company or name of a company I supposedly owed money to. Stated a claim had been submitted against me and either my attorney or I must respond in 24-48 hours. When I first called, there was no answer for over an hour. I then called the next morning where I spoke with a woman by te name of Kimberley. She stated I owed $1500+ to a payday loan company and began threatening me with questions such as did I take this money and run and commit fraud, etc. Once I asked what company and when it was taken out, she stated the name of Payday Loans and More and that  it had been taken out in "sometime in 2009, it doenst show what month" and could only give me the last three digits of the account number and no other info (isn't this my debt, and as such dont I have the right to all pertinent information regarding an account?) Then when I told her I had a bankruptcy filed an discharged two years ago, she told me to call her back with the case number as she couldn't wait for me to get it. I informed her that if she was asking me for info, she would wait as long as it took. She then said good bye and hung up. I then called back and took two calls and forty minutes to get through. Once I got back through, I asked immediately to speak to a supervisor, where lo and behold, the person who had anwered (Kimberley again) turned out to be the supervisor. Once I began asking info about the company she worked for and how they came across this account, she stated the Payday loan company had sought out legal counsel...I live in Las Vegas, have since 1994...why would a Vegas Payday loan company seek out legal counsel elsewhere, especially 14 hours away, in Kentucky. She the began answering my questions with one word responses and kept asking if that was all and trying to get off the phone.

I received a call from Erica Smith from Central Legal Services at my work number, asking me to phone 502-526-4380.  She gave me a case # to refer to and she didn't tell me the nature of the call, nor did I ask her.  I didn't have to ask, as these people have been trying unsuccessfully to get me to pay some amount they said I owe for a payday loan, which was paid off several years ago.  They have all sorts of techniques, use scare tactics, and sound threatening, but actually they probably work out of a basement somewhere with limited education and probably have a criminal record.  You can always call them and subject yourself to their embarrassing attempts to scare you, but I have learned the best approach is to simply not call them.  If you owe the money then it will show up on your credit report as an unpaid debt.  If you owed a true debt, you would receive letters in the mail with details of the debt, instead of getting harrassing calls.  The easiest thing to do is to hang up as soon as you know who it is.

Dear all, I just got the same call with the same speech. The point is I do not had any payday loan before. Thank you for the advise, I can understand that probably is a group of people trying to have 'easy money'. I won't return the call and I suggest if you receive the same call don't do so.

My place of employment received a call from Special Investigator Mary Hall, requesting that I call this number back reguarding a claim that was being filed agains me with claim # - Fist of all, it is very very illegal for them to 1st call your empoyer, 2nd of all discuss anything personally concerning the call, and 3rdly it is extremely illegal for them to threaten you, claim they have any warrant, or any kind of legal order against you - and again, where the heck is the legal papers concerning this - they can't even cough them up.  If these people start calling family memebers, make sure that they take down the callers name, phone, date & time - report all calls to this web-site - Federal Trade Commission  https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/

Great advice posted by an attorney on:
    https://800notes.com/Phone.aspx/1-718-732-0174

"IF they do not provide you with the verification of the debt, the debt is invalid and not subject to collection.  PAY NOTHING TO ANYBODY UNLESS THEY PROVIDE YOU WITH WRITTEN VERIFICATION OF THE DEBT, AND ONLY THEN IF YOU FEEL THE DEBT IS VALID - otherwise, let them sue you for the debt, as a real law firm will only bring a legal action on a truly valid debt".

I have been receiving these calls as well from Special Investigator Davis with all kinds of threats.  They even went so far as to call the people that bought our house from us in 2005!!!  And asked them to get in touch with us.  When I finally got in tough with someone today and told them I didn't know what kind of scam they were running but that this loan had been paid off and that I still had the proof and that I would be more than happy to fax them the papers that I had and that I would also be more than happy to have my attorney/employer contact them about a harrassment suit as well, they then told me that I would not be hearing from them again and hung up.  I agree with helper.  Please do not pay these people unless you have something in writing from the Loan company that you previously owed.  Not just from the people contacting you now, the original loan company!!!.

I received a telephone call at work today from a special investigator, kimberely telling me they  had a restraining order against me and for me to call 5625024080 with a claim number and for me to get my attorney. I asked her what company and what did they want and where she was calling from, she told, me Kentucky. I had never been to Kentucky and do not know anyone there. I went to the internet and google the number, it came back as a scam number and I saw the comments. I cannot wait for them to call me again.

They call on old payday loans trying to get some poor old lady or someone who doesn't know the facts of debt collection and try to get them scared enough to pay on the phone.  They are horrible.  They use all kinds of tricks and different names and numbers.  I too have made a complaint against Stephanie White and the special investigators at this number.  We received a call a while back From a Larry and it was the same deal.  Except he said that he was a process server trying to locate her to serve papers on her.  DONT BELIEVE ANYTHING THEY SAY.  File a complaint with ftccomplaintassistant.com and with your local Attorney General.  I am in Washington state and I am going to GET JESSE! fromKing5 news!! Good luck

Thank you so much for including the federal trade commission link! I do not owe any money and have the bank statements to prove it, but every few months they resume their threatening calls, and this time they left a message on my mother's answering machine! I will be filing a complaint for sure.

This web site has some great info about these "zombie" debt collectors, how to deal with them, and even links to some letter templates to send to the company.

Received a call 5/9/2012 to call 502-546-4380 within the next 24-48 hours about a legal complaint that has been filed against me. My mom called me later to tell me the same person called her and asked her to give me the same message. I called the number on 5/10/2012 and talked to Stacy Foster, Special Investigator. She said I have a complaint from Payday Loan Company that I took a cash advance from them on 5/1/2011. I told her I didn't do this. She said that if I didn't resolve this matter I would have to go to court and pay more money. That they could settle out of court and make payment arrangements with me, so I gave her my credit card number and set up arrangements. Then I looked online just to see if there was anything about them online. When I typed in 502-526-4380 it came up that it is all part of a scam, so I canceled my credit card right away.

I received one of the same phone calls.  First I received a phone call at work and then they called my mother in law telling me that I needed to get a hold of them as soon as possible.  I have received these phone calls before but this one sounded more real so I looked in to it a little bit farther and found all of the complaints.  I told them I didn't take out a loan and had all of my bank statements but they still didn't believe me so I gave their number to an attorney and am letting an attorney handle it.  I can't believe that these people get away with it.

Well it happened to me, too.  Today I came home and I had a voicemail message from some so called special investigator "Kimberly Gray".  She talked so fast on the message that I had to replay it 5 times before I could understand and catch what she was saying.  Bottomline, I called back and I got no answer.  I know for a fact that I don't have payday loan debt and I have already filed a complaint with the FTC.  These people must be stopped.

I got on today from Investigator Steven Reynolds. Saying all the same drama as the other posts. When i asked where he was calling from he said NH - however when i asked for a phone number to the company he worked for he gave me the 502.526.4380 number. I told him that obviously isn't a NH area code and he would not give the actual location of the office he was calling from. If you have ever done a payday loan they do show up on yoru credit. I am disputing with one now to prove it was paid. The compnay never sent me a notice saying it was paid so its just a big run around.  Never do a payday loan. biggest mistake.
