This person contacted me via text about a fake business proposition and said he would send me $5000 on a credit card if I could send him back $1,500 to pay a consultant.  His name was obviously fake, he gave a fake referral name and said he couldn't talk on the phone because he was hearing impaired.  

I received the same sort of text message. He wanted a website and hosting urgently. He indicated that he was from Kentucky but presently in Africa "to get some agricultural product" and will be back to states in two weeks time. Gave a bogus name as a referral. Kinda creeps me out.

He contacted us as Manix Jones and asked we charge 3 of his credit cards (all were declined) and send his consultant money back. We then asked for an address and he gave us a billing address to sanford, Fl. This is obvisously a scam, I wish these people would get caught!

He said he was hearing impaired as well....

BEWARE! I just received a text that says:
"I am hearing impaired you can only text or email me and This is Janet Wilson, can you handle website design for my new company? i will like you to getbackto me asap. thanks Janet"

Her email is: janetwilson18@yahoo.com

Then she went on to explain that she is a music teacher and instructor for disabled kids.  Which seems nice but many red flags are flying here. Her texts all have grammar errors, typos & her story has many inconsistencies.  She also said later in the texts that she can hear but cant talk. And she lied about knowing one of my current customers.  When I confirmed with the customer they do not know her. SO, I began searching for her online and did a phone number search.  That is how I found these responses & felt it necessary to share my story too.  I am proceeding with caution here.

This same Janet Wilson contacted us about a website and had a similar story about going out of the country to "Indian" and needed to pay a consultant, etc.

She texted us numerous times and the by email using the janetwilson18@yahoo.com email too.

Total scam!

We've also had some interactions with a Janet Wilson under the same email address of janetwilson18@yahoo.com but a different phone number: 786-480-7658. This is the first of many text messages we received: "I am hearing impaired you can only text me or email me, this is Janet wilson,can you handle website design for my new company? i will like you to get back to me via email address at janetwilson18@yahoo.com thanks, Janet"

Mannix Jones contacted me with needs for a  website on a 30 day timeline. After I gave my standard response, I got a detailed request and thought maybe this was legit. I then got a request to forward funds to a consultant out of a payment of $7,500.I was to keep $2000 as my deposit and take a $100 tip. I declined

Known as a 'Card not present' scam.

I received a text from Mannix Jones needing a website and do I except credit cards. He stated that he is hearing impaired.  The phone number is: 1.612.843.7588

Yup, this is what I got today, an email:

I wrote back so let's see if he reads this before contacting again.  Way too many scams out there, be careful!

I just wasted hours of time; not only mine but that of my developer.

All website creation people, be aware of someone asking for a quote for an import/export company based in TN that mentions GRACILLIA NUT (Google it).  The specificity with which he presented his website needs led me to excuse the extremely poor grasp of English grammar.  Unfortunately, in this 144 character world, too many people cannot write a cogent email.

The scam is being changed up now.  Here's the new message from joel abelard joel_abelard@outlook.com:

"Thanks for getting back to me ,well i have all the details drafted in my email,but i will call you tomorrow to discuss further about the project.Just go through it and get back to me with your quote..

We had the same contact from Joel Adams - wanted us to build a website for his clothing company and he would pay us more than we quoted via credit card so we could pay his consultant with cash advance. clearly a scam.

I received the same thing.  It had all the red flags of a phishing or other type scam.  However, the person was responsive on email replies.  I set up a call and spoke with him.  He said he was from AL, but his number was WI, and when we spoke he didn't sound like a "Frank Campbell"...he called several hours late and was very quick to get off the phone.  The voice sounded distinctly Nigerian...

There has been a rise in these calls and I see a large number from outlook.com emails lately.  These can be costly when you factor in time spent/paid.

Does anyone have an idea of how to minimize the impact of these?
