this number is from the multnomah county jail. you can not call it back since it is an outgoing phone only. they let the inmates use it when they are booked and can not make a collect call.

as it is, you are all right. my husband works for multnomah county in the state building. when he calls home it sometimes shows up as this number. it must just be a routing number through the mult/or call station or something akin to that. because of that you can never call the number, but only receive calls from it.
Caller: multnomah county or oregon state

Receive a call from this number on 12-17-07.  After reading the input from others.  It appears that this is just a misdialed regular or fax number from Multnomah County, Oregon.

It's Oregon DHS offices in Portland.  The "jail" story is a standard lie so that "services" like WIC don't have to explain why they won't identify themselves.  The number gets moved around occasionally, but is always DHS.  I got lucky and talked the guy on the other end up to find something out, after getting my sixth in a row, and while I was on the phone I heard a co-worker give her number out to someone.  I did a reverse trace on it, which turned out to be a private cell, called and asked who the guy was sitting next to her.  Went to the address, and got a match with the voice and a real person.  It turned out to be a John Davis that works in DHS IT by the Lloyd Center.  Don't know what the scam is, he would only say he worked on "Rusty Coathanger", which turned out to be the state abortions database.  It's in MS-Access!  Figures!  In a country run by fraud, IT is the biggest...

As to why they call you... Seems to be a case of the collection agency that just doesn't understand someone moved/thinks everyone is lying scenario.  They are checking on Food Stamp or WIC recipients who have moved without updating the number.  They've seen something suspicious in the data and are calling on a fishing expedition.  My advice is to have some fun with them.  They seem butt stupid.  Feed 'em some data and waste their time like they're wasting your.

You pay for this and call it a service?  Real "progressive", Oregon...

This is a outgoing line for a State office building.  I just got a call from Oregon Department of Environmental Quality from this number in response to my request to review files.  Not the Jail, not DHS...

This is a routing line for the State of Oregon. When someone calls from any state building the call automatically goes through a routing system so the actual number that shows up on any ID system is a routing number.  So, who ever it is calling you could be calling from ANY state office, DHS, DEQ, DMV, ect.
Caller: State of Oregon

I received a angry female caller using this phone number this morning and she refused to indentify herself and had hung up on me. She indentified me and said it was "in reguards to employment." This is not cool when I just received a phone call the day before from a Oregon Employment Office investigator about a serious case I just recently submitted.
