I got a call from this number last night and when I called back, it said it's the Do Not Call Directory, and if I want to be put on the Directory so I don't get calls from their "customers", press 1. I didn't press anything for fear of what might have happened next. A Do Not Call Directory wouldn't be calling random numbers... ugh, I'm sick of these spammy phone calls!

Just got an unsolicited call from this outfit hawking lowered interest rates on all credit cards.  It asks you to press "1".  When I did I got a person, named Richard.  My first question: "Which card are you calling on?"  He said it applies to all Visa, MstrCrd, etc...  I repeated:  If you can't tell me which card - you aren't legit - they hung up.  Advise anyone who gets these calls to always ask that question - otherwise they are fishing for your credit card number.

Don't bother trying to add your Cell phones to the National Do Not Call Program - they are not part of it, as they are private listings.  These companies use calling computers running thru random sets of numbers within a state.  If anyone knows how to stop this sort of spam - please post it.

Here's what I do.  I put the number in my contacts with a warning like 'zzz do not call' and then I use my options to send the call direct to voicemail.  No ring and no fuss til I'm ready to mass delete them from my message box.  Another thought is to assign a silent ring to them.

I got a person when I pressed 1....when I threatened to report the number if called again, I was called several ugly names.  So I did a little research and the following is what I found.

The federal government does not maintain a national cell phone registry. Personal cell phone users have always been able to add their numbers to the National Do Not Call Registry — the same Registry consumers use to register their land lines — either online at www.donotcall.gov or by calling toll-free 1-888-382-1222 from the telephone number they wish to register. Registrations become effective within 31 days of signing up and are active for five years. There is no cut-off date or deadline for registrations.

I am on do not call list also, it just doesn't seem to matter though. Guess you have to be in politics or on a reality show to get anything done!!!

    I do not answer
The best idea is break the habit of automatically answering the phone. If it is not a number your cell phone does not recognize because it is in your contacts list leave it. If it is a legitimate call they will leave a message.

Nothing is quite as infuriating as knowing my cellphone is now contaminated by these lowlifes, too.  Didn't answer.
