Caller sounded very unprofessional, but asked for me by (first) name. She claimed to be representing Blue Cross - Blue Shield of Louisiana, and wanted to ask me a few questions.

When I said I did not feel like answering questions, she was polite and agreed to end the call.

Daily calls from this number. Sometimes more than one. Usually I don't answer but once, maybe twice when I did there was no immediate person so I hung up. Looked up SSI today and see it is federal Supplemental Social Security Income but it is certain from the other posts that this 504-area code outfit is just using a similar acronym. What a useful website this is for noting problem calls.

It was a survey about hospitals.  Got 2 calls in 30 minutes and thought SSI might be Social Security or something important.
She got me to answer questions, but I got annoyed and ended the call.  Do not answer this call.

Two numbers, 504-229-5855, 504-229-5856. Caller ID says SSI. I generally do not answer calls from numbers I don't recognize. They never leave a message, usually hangs up. I have had calls from this number in the past, but they stopped. They have started again in the past two days.

Search "SSI survey" brings up "Survey Sampling International" search "SSI survey bbb" brings up their BBB report http://www.bbb.org/connecticut/business-revie ... ton-ct-1003542/  search "survey sampling international opt-out" https://www.surveysampling.com/general/received-a-call  Yes, as mentioned they may be associated with debt collection agencies if you're receiving calls from both, under deceptive skip tracing and verification tactics!

The area code may be 504 (probably spoofed), from New Orleans, but the exchange numbers (229, 269, 500, 656, and 837) are not! The best advice: If you see a name and/or number you do not recognize on Caller ID (let's hope you have Caller ID), do not pick up the call.

Jamming sounds to listen for: A sound like you would hear if you put a seashell up to your ear. "Dead line" or "white noise" silence. You may say, "Hello", yet you will get no reply but a prompt hang-up.

Why have these goons chosen to identify themselves as "SSI"? I volunteer at a senior center, and I hear plenty about bogus phone calls targeted at seniors. Seniors will see the "SSI" and think it has to do with Social Security, and probably go into a panic. Remember, Social Security writes; it does not phone.

This number just called. Caller id said SSI. I did some checking and they are Survey Sampling Research Group. They call from multiple telephone numbers. There are two things, though. I heard from one of my friend's relatives that if you answer the phone, it'll cost you money. Also, if you do answer, it's always a dead line. Just a heads up.
