Got a call from windows technical support. This is the 4th or 5th time someone from "windows technical support" has called. First time from this number though. Usually it's a man, but this was a woman. I told her I didn't have windows. She asked if I had a mac and I said yes. Maybe they'll stop calling now.

A man called and said he was with windows technical support and was calling me to tell me that when I use my computer online that I am alerting them to malicious errors from software I am downloading...sounds absolutely ridiculous!  I told him that I am an ethical hacker and I would be aware of something like this.  He mentioned that he was from London.  The # that shows on my caller id is 505-349-4654.  I told him to remove my number and to refrain from calling me in the future.  I also told him that it was odd he would be calling random people, and then he went silent.  I finally hung up on him...BEWARE!!

I just got that same call, Asian sounding guy from 'Microsoft Technical Support' telling me my Windows computer sending them errors indicating I had virus on computer.  I told him which computer, I had several.  I hear him tell someone else 'he has multiple computers' and then he hung up.  What a scam.  A bad one at that.  Hope folks don't fall for it.

My caller ID shows this number called me this morning. Most posts already show it is someone purporting to be representing Windows, It has to be a scam as I do not have windows.

I used to work at Microsoft so let me state this.  These guys are scammers they are not from "Windows Support" as Microsoft will never call you unsolicited and they do NOT have people calling you to inform you of computer issues!  These guys want to take you to a website called www.teamviewer.com (Which I believe is a legitimate site)  The site allows people to control your PC.  DO NOT LET THEM CONTROL YOUR PC.  They likely will install a virus on your system that will steal your credit card/bank acocount/passwords etc.

If you HAVE let them do this.  IMMEDIATELY CONTACT YOUR BANK.  Have your systems scanned by anti-virus software such as AVAST or MCafee etc.  I personally would flatten the box as you have no way of knowing what they put on of if it was cleaned.  The program may not show as a virus but still steals your information.

So remove your important documents and files to a thumbdrive.  Scan the thumbdrive then flatten your computer.  That would be my recommendation.  (Read don't hold me liable for you losing files, etc its a recommendation based on what I would do).

How do we know they are scammers?

    1. There is NO WAY a technician knows your computer is sending out errors, but cannot tell you if its on
    2. There is NO WAY that someone on the internet is getting your errors unless YOU installed software to let them DO IT.
    3. There is NO WAY that someone can determine your computer and YOUR PHONE NUMBER.
    4. There is NO WAY that even if they know your computer and somehow in a wild fantasy knew your phone number and they DO NOT KNOW YOUR NAME?

Its a scam protect yourself and DO NOT FALL FOR THIS.

By the way would "Windows Support" curse you and say F&^% Y*& when you call them out on the facts I just laid out to you?  If they were from Microsoft I guarantee that would be the LAST day they worked there.

    No this is a scam.
