I'm an Avon rep and this phone number came in an email from a Natalie wanting to order products.  With the way the email is written, I'm not taking a chance on ordering  products for someone that I have no idea where they live and is asking for to much of my info. so that someone else can pick up and pay.

 I found your email contact on your Avon website,I'm Natalie,I'm a make up artist.I am currently working on a project which i'm gonna need some Avon items,I haven't tried using Avon Products before, i have been using the Body Shop and recently Amway, but not until when i saw Avon ads and i would like to try them.
  Here are the lists of the items I'm gonna need and I would like them to be available for pick up  around Mid September, I could just have ordered them directly on Avon website but i wont be home for a while until i am done with my project.

Got the same email

I'm a new Avon Rep and was contacted with this same email.  Same order. It all seemed strange from the beginning. I didn't place the order, but did give her a total as to how much the products would be. She told me that the payment was sent, but there was a mistake and the total amount of the cashiers check was over $2000.  Said to cash it, then return the amount left to her. Um...no.  Return to sender.

Better yet, take the check, the envelope and any instructions about how to return the "overpayment" to the Post Office and report it as mail fraud.  Alternatively take it all to your bank and ask to speak to whomever handles fraud and see if they can investigate and give it to the proper authorities to catch this scammer.

I am a Beautycounter rep and I guess now named "Keisha" is targeting us. Will people ever stop?!?!

On 12/28/14, I received the same message that Kerry received (from Keisha at kbriggs3031@gmail.com), requesting Mary Kay products. The email response was worded the same as the one in the thread dated 8/23/14 (with phone# 507-881-9721), but from Keisha instead of Natalie, and requesting the following products:

Damn, I got hustled.  I ordered the products for her and gave her a total with my address of where to send payment. I will be reporting this right away to my bank and other needed companies. I thought, maybe this is someone real. Ugh. I hate you Keisha Briggs

Hi, I'm a MaryKay consultatnt and I just received the same email from Keisha. Fortunately I had the feeling that this was not legit and the foresight to Google the phone number. I copied/pasted the email re: the Avon products and sent it to her in an email stating that I would not be ordering any MK products for her and I would be reporting her to the Legal department at MaryKay.

I just got the same message. I'm also glad that I googled the number. I thought it was strange since the MK website sends an email, not a text, when a new customer would like to order products. Thanks for sharing the information!

This person is trying to scam independent beauty consultants.

Yep I just got this information as well on Keisha.  She ordered about $100 worth of stuff.  I have been a bit suspicious from the beginning and emailing her back and forth.   Gave her my text number not linked to any of my accounts. She has been a bit vague.  So now I will give her a fake number to contact someone else after seeing all of this. Should of checked here first.

I'm a Mary Kay representative and just received a text from her too.  I emailed her and replied to her text.  I provided my work address, but she has my telephone number....  Does anyone know what her scam is?  I'm not sure what to do to protect myself (or my information) from this scam artisit.

Better Business Bureau is warning consumers, especially Mary Kay consultants, about a new scam. A local resident from Springfield received a text message from someone claiming to be April Weiss wanting to order $175.00 in products. April stated that she was opening a modeling agency, and the payment would come via cashier’s check from her ‘art director.’  

Upon receiving the check, the consumer noticed two business names: CU Services Center and California Coast Credit Union out of San Diego.

The consumer also received another text message from April stating that the check was accidentally made out in the wrong amount for $2,230.65. April asked that the consumer cash the check and send the remaining balance back to her personal assistant—who she claims is a man named Mark Queen—via MoneyGram. The number associated with the text messages is (404) 490-2503, an area code out of Atlanta, GA.

BBB conducted a simple search of the phone number and found several similar stories on www.800notes.com dating from June 16, 2014. We offer the following tips on how to avoid being scammed with fake checks.

Talk to a branch manager before depositing a check from a stranger. Sit down with them in person to discuss the situation in detail. Banks know what to look for in a fake check, and they will be able to make the final call on whether or not it should be deposited.

Insist on being paid with a money order or cashier’s check drawn from a local bank or a bank that has a local branch. When the money comes in, take it to the bank and verify that it is valid.

Consider asking for a money order from the U.S. Postal Service. You can verify the money order’s validity by taking it to a local post office or using the USPS’s toll-free automated services.

Avoid situations where you receive a check for more than the amount due and you are instructed to return the difference. A classic scam artist move, the check usually comes back counterfeit and you are left responsible to pay your bank the entire balance of the bounded check after you have already paid the scam artist.

Be cautious about instructions to send the money order overseas. It is extremely difficult to track down people in another country.

Walk away from any deal where you are told to keep quiet about the transaction. This is a common scare tactic among scam artists who are trying to avoid being caught. It is to prevent a bank or others warning you about a counterfeit check.

PS--If this scammer persists, forward her text to 7726 (short code for SPAM). It will be investigated and blocked by your cell provider.

I got the Mary Kay order from "Keisha".

Forward spam to spam@uce.gov to report to ftc.

I knew it was a fake when she said she found Mr through my "website", but the only web contact I have for Mary Kay is through the Mary Kay website and orders can be placed there at the same time selecting me, or any consultant, as the preferred consultant.
