ISSUE: Solicitation call from Small Business Network (SBN) offering a MasterCard up to $250,000. Callback was 800-895-6827, x301 Caller ID indicated 508-438-2672
I received this solicitation. Caller ID indicated 508-438-2672. Recorded message from "Kathy" said to "Press 1 now" to find out more or call 800-895-6827, extension 301.
I dialed 1-800-895-6827 and a recorded voice said that all operators were busy. The recorded voice told me to wait and the next available operator would assist me.
I was put on hold and classical music began playing. I was never given an opportunity to dial an extension, and pressing 301, #301, and *301 had no effect.
My number is on the "National Do Not Call List", so this is a violation subject to a $10,000 fine.
It is my understanding that a solicitation without a "readily accessible" way to opt out and be removed from the senders "call list" is also a violation.
My concern was that a) I received an illegal solicitation, and that b) it might be one of the scams that get you to call a number, puts you on hold, and turns out to be an offshore scammer charging $5 a minute to my phone bill.
I called the operator who checked my bill and saw no such charges, but I'll check again tomorrow in case it posts tonight.
Prerecorded message about a credit card. Call back number is 800-895-6827 x 301.
I called back and told the operator to remove my number. She said we had a business phone and they were allowed to call and that it would take 30 days to get off their calling list.
Didn't take the call because it was from an area code that is unual for me to get a call from. We are a business and don't do business in that part of the country. Checked online for the number an found it is from a Small Business Network Credit card company. I am on the DO NOT CALL LIST.
Being on the DO NOT CALL LIST does not mean you will not be called by telemarketers. Telemarketers don't know every single individual on the list, you have to ASK that particular company to take you off their list. I can't believe some people out there are so stupid to think that EVERY TELEMARKETER KNOWS the ENTIRE do not call list. Next time a telemarketer calls, ASK to be put on THEIR do not call list and quit thinking you are so special that ALL TELEMARKETERS know you are on it.
Received a call from "Kathy" from the SMALL BUSINESS NETWORK. The address I have for this company is 1631 West Cray Road, Suite 9-168, North Los Angles, CA 89032. I also believe their main office is San Diego CA. No regard for the DNC lists
I reported them to the FTC for violating the "Do Not Call" Registery.
AGAIN, just because you are on the do not call list does not mean you will never be called or that a company is doing something wrong by calling you. YOU HAVE TO LET THE COMPANY CALLING YOU KNOW YOU ARE ON THE LIST AND ASK TO BE TAKEN OFF OF THEIRS. Plus, they have up to 30 days to do it... you could be called again by them in that time and they are doing nothing wrong. Really now, do you think all telemarkers/companies know EVERY LITTLE INDIVIDUAL IN THE WHOLE USA WHO IS ON THAT LIST? I hate people who think being on the do not call list means they will never get telemarketing calls. It doesn't work that way... you have to tell them your on the list and that you want to be taken off their list.

P.S. - I am not a telemarketer... I just bothered to figure out how the DO NOT CALL list works.
Received recorded message from Small Business Network credit card. Did not physically answer the phone; as I never answer calls with unfamiliar numbers or unknown/unavailable info. Unsolicited call.
received 3 phone calls in a row from this number while I was on the phone with a relative this morning. glad I didn't bother to cut into my phone call. I am on the do not call list too.
Just got a call from them too...10/31/07...stating that I was pre-approved for a small business loan...Gurr! How are they able to obtain your cell phone number?
AGAIN, AGAIN, and AGAIN... just because you are on the do not call list does not mean you will never be called or that a company is doing something wrong by calling you. Got call from 508-438-2672 --automated message offering $250k credit line to small business. I pressed the wrong button to be removed from call list and got Kathy. She said she was in Boston and wanted bank account number to activate a preapproved card. Also wanted to email particulars 48 hrs later rather than snail mail so offer could be looked over before taking it. Yeah, right.
They won't be fined. THEY ARE ALLOWED TO CALL.... you have to tell them your on the do not call list and request to be taken off their list. You aren't automatically immune from telemarketers just because you are on the list. There is a whole big USA out there full of people. Telemarketers don't know every single person on it. Plus, they have up to 30 days after your request to make sure you are off of it, AND they can still call you during those 30 days.
