- ACE| 4 repliesI called the number about 20 times. They barley speak English and sound Indian or middle eastern. They tried their best to cuss me when they figured out I knew it was a scam. They couldn't even do that right. Lol. Anyway please be aware that the IRS never contacts over the phone. They send letters only and let you call them. Generally they don't file charges or use the legal system either. The real IRS has the power to levy and garnish without it.
- jabney| 1 replyI received a call with a recorded message from this number. Message stated that the IRS has filed a law suit against me and I should call them at the same number right away. Since I knew it was a scam - I called to find out what type of information they were surfing for. They can't speak English very well and when challenged they say it is the Audit department and when continued to be challenged they hang up.
- CharleneReceived a voicemail to call 509.588.7318 about a lawsuit with the IRS. Basically the same experience as what the others described when I returned the call. They barley speak English, sounded Indian or middle eastern. However, they do have caller id because I was using a business phone to return the call and they asked if I was that person. When I told them I knew it was a scam they hung up. And as Ace said... Anyway please be aware that the IRS never contacts over the phone. They send letters only and let you call them. Generally they don't file charges or use the legal system either. The real IRS has the power to levy and garnish without it.

- Lorijust received a message from this #...started to panic, but luckily my husband had heard about this on the news....[***]....and foreign yet to boot.....
- NancyLReceived 2 voice messages. The recordings started as "...lawsuit against you" then gave this number as callback for details. Since I suspected a scam, I did not call the number but immediately came to 800notes.com.
Thank you 800notes.com for providing this resource and forum as a way to help identify and expose these types of calls. - LSJust had the same experience today, with the same message regarding the IRS was filling a lawsuit against me. I'm so glad I checked 800notes first and read the comments here. I'm dealing with the IRS for my deceased sister's "non" estate so getting this kind of call was a little unsettling.
- Juliethey left two incomplete messages on my answering machine. "...filing this claim against you. Call 509 588 7318".
I knew it was a scam, and I called to see what their ploy was going to be. The moron answered "Hello" with enough background noise to support that it's a a boiler room set up. If I see the number again on my caller ID, I will answer with "FBI FIELD OFFICE, AGENT MORGAN SPEAKING". What fools. - K Allenrecorded say from irs. Hung up. Scam

Umm no thanks, I'll pass, and your number is now blocked. I feel bad for people who get scammed by these jerks. :(

- Alfalfa replies to Annoyed Individual| 1 replyThousands have been scammed for millions. And, the numbers/amounts are climbing.
These are criminal extortionists operating in overseas boiler rooms using VOIP to alter their identities and locations and out of the reach of US law enforcement.
If someone calls saying he's an IRS agent and demands that you send money immediately, hang up.
It's a phone scam.In fact, it tops the IRS "Dirty Dozen" list of tax scams this year, and it's been surging in recent months, the agency said Thursday.
The Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration (TIGTA), which oversees the IRS, has received reports of 290,000 scam calls since October 2013 and said nearly 3,000 victims have been swindled out of $14 million so far.
By altering their caller ID number to make it look like they're calling from an IRS office, these scammers often threaten vulnerable people like the elderly and new immigrants with things like arrest, deportation or the loss of their driver's license if they don't pay immediately for money purportedly owed.
Often leaving messages that say it's "urgent" you call them back, the scammers use common names and sometimes say they are from the IRS Criminal Division. They may even claim to know the last four digits of your Social Security number and send follow-up emails that appear to be from the IRS, TIGTA said.
They often demand that payments be made by prepaid debit card.
Once they make their threats, the scammers have been known to call back and again disguise their caller ID so it appears they are calling from the police department or the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV).
Or sometimes when they call, they may say you have a refund due and ask you to provide personal information so you can claim it.
The real IRS will usually contact you by regular mail first, if it needs to contact you at all. And the agency never demands immediate payment by phone or asks for credit card or debit numbers if they do call. It also never asks for personal or financial information by email, text or social media.
If you get what you suspect is a scam call, report it to TIGTA through its Web site or call 800-366-4484.

- JimBeen getting multiple messages a day for several weeks. IRS scam, same as above.
- Noelle Branchreceived a message on June 9th then called again on 10th my son answered and said it was a recorded message same as the others are getting to call this number back because I'm fixing to be sued by the IRS. Called the number it's been busy.
- AnonymJust got off the phone with this scam. Going to report it to real IRS. They try and scare like "we sent letters in Nov and Dec" and then knew my address. Said they would not send letters again... But they did not know the right way to say our name, our 'legal names' versus what we go by. Tried to scare me saying 'there was a price on my head'. Grow up! Stupid [***] calling with a foreign accent and cannot even get the idioms correct. Said I had 90 days to pay.
Glad I checked here first.- Caller: "IRS"
