Someone from this number called my 16 year old daughter and told her there was a pending lawsuit against her, she said he sounded Indian. Told her there was a pending lawsuit with the IRS for $4000 then when she told him she was 16 he brought the charges down, before getting off the phone with this fool, he asked her if she had a boyfriend. This is ridiculous.

Just called me and stated that there was a law suit pending against me by the IRS and I should call this number back.
I hope that the police and the feds are able to shut the operation down---is it not a criminal act to impersonate  US govt officials ?

I got a call from this number today. I am Indian and there was an Indian guy on the phone. I spoke with them for about half hour and dodged every question about my personal details. He was frustrated at the end and realized that I wont give out anything. He started cursing with me in Hindi and that's when the fun started. I cussed him with all my heart and hung up the phone. Made my day !!!

Received a call on my cel number allegedly from IRS (female voice) stating that they have been trying to contact me about a case against me.  I did not return the call becasue I suspected it was a fraud.  Then I checked it on line and found it was some fraud outfit.  Let's stop messing with these imbiciles.  Take them out and shoot them and be done with it.

I got a call from the number 509-588-7386 just now (12:40 PM est.) It was an automated message that I had a pending lawsuit from the IRS and this was a final notice. I have done nothing illegal with my taxes at all, and this is not an IRS number, and I am not the only person who got this, apparently. In fact, a lot of people on this site got this call at around the same exact time I did.

This is clearly a sham, as many other people have pointed out, but unfortunately some people will probably fall for this, and who can blame them? Getting a threat of a lawsuit from the IRS would be terrifying, so unless someone stops and thinks, they'll make a rash choice. Something like this is clearly illegal, and some people will be fooled by it.

It is, but the callers are located in India and Pakistan and are hard core scammer/extortionists.  They are beyond the reach of US law.   Invest in a call blocker.

Total scam.  Originates in either India or Pakistan.   Block and ignore.   DO NOT RETURN THE CALL!

I’m an Enrolled Agent with the IRS (Inactive). IRS does not initiate contacts by phone.  US mail only.   IRS does not file lawsuits.   Court action, if any is handled by the DOJ and all parties are entitled to legal assistance if it is a criminal matter.  But--tax disputes are for the most part civil matters.  90% of all IRS tax disputes are settled administratively.  IRS has absolutely no authority to call on local law enforcement for anything. Local law is never involved in IRS tax disputes. IRS does not threaten to involve local law enforcement or to arrest you for nonpayment of federal taxes.  IRS has no powers of arrest.    If LE is necessary, US Marshals do the job.  IRS does not cold call anyone and demand immediate payment of  money.  IRS does not ask for financial information over the phone.   IRS does not accept Green card money paks for payment in any case.  No one is prosecuted for ordinary tax disputes. IRS has absolutely no authority over anyone's professional license. Professional licensing is handled by state governments.  Yes, levies on property to satisfy an existing tax obligation do occur, but only after a very long period of negotiation. And yes, liens are placed on individuals but  usually after a lot of negotiation and a failure to reach a settlement.    All determinations of tax liability are subject to appeals.  All  contacts by the IRS are initiated by US mail.
