- EricYou will receive a computer generated message if you are not home or didn't answer the phone and ask you to call them back at (509) 790-0575. other wise if you do answer the phone the person will introduce themselves and claim to be from the IRS and tell you that you are being sued and your assets will be frozen unless you pay them a certain amount on your credit card or visa or MasterCard gift cards. This is a scam and just hang up or don't return the phone call and just erase the message and forget about it. If you did not receive a a written notice or several prior from the IRS then you have nothing to worry about.
- Caller: Says they are from the IRS
- Nancy| 3 repliesI got the same message. I saved it for my husband to hear & we both knew it was a scam. The IRS, if it really wanted to sue us, which I doubt they sue people, but audit instead, wouldn't send a computer generated message. Please don't give ANYONE your credit card information unless you are purchasing something from a valid site and you started the transaction. Don't be fooled by these people who are trying to steal your money and identity. Be careful out there!
- B. ParrishIRS scam call. Stated they've been trying to reach us and are going to sue.
- S Miccoi received a voicemail stating the irs was suing me and I needed to call immediately the message was all breaking up and didn't even sound professional I have been contacted by the irs before and it definitely was by mail (all was good with that by the way) what a scam
- D| 1 replyi just got a call from them, they are coming from a phone bought in Spokane and the phone is now in West Virginia by Saybert on the corner of Whipperwill Ln. so basically its coming from a trailer park on a logging road...... I used a pay per min phone to explain to them how the IRS works and that they should use their energy to make their own clean money.
- Call type: Debt collector
- Jamesyah. I got the same crapy sounding message too @1:09pm. They say they've been trying to reach me, yet they are no where in my caller id history. Second..they say that the irs is preparing to sue you, but dont say they ARE the IRS. Caller ID says Unknown. Lame scam
- James replies to Nancy| 2 repliesHi, actually the irs can sue you. Youre right...they can audit you...but if you owe them money they can do all kinds of mean stuff, like deduct from tax refund, garnish wages...and sue you.
- Tamianth replies to JamesOf course they can. But they generally try to work something out and send stuff ala snail mail . These calls are extortion scam calls mostly coming out of India and Pakistan.
For a cell phone, some already have call blocking, if not, there are free apps on the web that will work for some. You can google this. If you have a smart phone, there is a free app called call control. Iphones appear to have apps also. Another one is called Mr. Number.
For text messages: forwarding any text message spam you get to the short code “7726,” which spells “spam” on most phones, to alert your network operator to the abuse. ATT won't accept 7726 But they will accept BLOCK and return a message that the web site is blocked. forward the texts to 7726 or BLOCK, depending on your phone carrier.

https://800notes.com/faq/state-do-not-call - CWG40 replies to JamesActually the IRS does not go to court. It does not sue anyone. If court action is necessary, the Department of Justice. takes action and decides whether or not to go to court. Yes, there are various ways the IRS uses to enforce the payment of a tax liability against a taxpayer. They have more than enough tools to enforce the tax laws.
Obviously the IRS performs audits. If you disagree with an audit you can go through the administrative process. But remember that no enforcement action takes place without a lot of negotiation between the taxpayer and the IRS. All decisions by the IRS are subject to negotiation and appeal either in the courts or through the administrative system.
. But--tax disputes are for the most part civil matters. 90% of all IRS tax disputes are settled administratively. IRS has absolutely no authority to call on local law enforcement for anything. Local law is never involved in IRS tax disputes. IRS does not threaten to involve local law enforcement or to arrest you for nonpayment of federal taxes. IRS has no powers of arrest. If LE is necessary, US Marshals do the job. IRS does not cold call anyone and demand immediate payment of money. IRS does not ask for financial information over the phone. IRS does not accept Green card money paks for payment in any case. No one is prosecuted for ordinary tax disputes. IRS has absolutely no authority over anyone's professional license. Professional licensing is handled by state governments. Yes, levies on property to satisfy an existing tax obligation do occur, but only after a very long period of negotiation. And yes, liens are placed on individuals but usually after a lot of negotiation and a failure to reach a settlement. All determinations of tax liability are subject to appeals. All contacts by the IRS are initiated by US mail. - CWG40 replies to DThe calls come from India and Pakistan. They spoof local numbers. Oddly, they seem to like to spoof trailer park numbers.
- MicheleReceived this message with obvious foreign born speaker mangling English.
- Caller: Claims to "IRS."
- hexxussI called back using my work number, which gets blocked from their caller ID & when someone answered they said "hellooo, hello hello helloooo" in a really deep vocal tone. Very amusing. Will call them back from home, and read them the IRS's own website information regarding all the way this is a scam, and then provide them with the info of the attorney here that goes after people like them. =D I LOVE the law, and LOVE busting scammers.
- Caller: SCAMMERS
- JanCall received 10:44am on May 26, 2015. Caller ID said "unavailable" with phone number 1-509-790-0575. Female voice - recorded message: "We have been trying to reach you. This call is officially a final notice from IRS Internal Revenue Service. The reason of this call is to notify you that IRS is filing lawsuit against you. To get more information about this case file, please call immediately on our department number 5097900575. I repeat 5097900575. Thank you." It sounded very official, but we knew it wasn't legitimate. I'm an accountant and know this is not how IRS first contacts you, if ever.

Received a phone from the above number claiming that the IRS is going to sue me due to unpaid taxes from the years 2008-2013. The Indian speaking man called himself Richerd Wilson. He said I was going to have all my assets, cars, bank account etc. seized if I don't paid the balance of $5214.56. Also, the law enforcement agency had a warrant out for my arrest and face a possible 5 years of imprisonment lol. I ask him to provide my address which he did. When I asked him to repeat my SS# number he said he was not given that access. The worst part of this whole experience is that someone will fall for this scam and provide a CC in fear of imprisonment. Shame on you.- Caller: IRS
- m smithThey keep calling me
- Caller: irs
- Lisa MIt's a shame people fall for this. I had to play the message twice just to hear again what a scam sounds like that steals 1000s from mostly elderly. I so wanted to call back and give them a piece of my mind, but not worth my time and energy. I worked for an accountant. If the IRS wants to contact you they'll send you a letter. Of course I'm sure someone has that scam letter down too. Sad...

- AdrienI received a message today, saying "You are going to be sued by the IRS." But they never say who, they are suing! No name so that lead me to believe it was a scam. With a little research I found out it was. I went to the IRS website and they have a whole section on scams. So if in doubt look it up. Here's the link. http://www.irs.gov/uac/Newsroom/IRS-Repeats-Warning-about-Phone-Scams
- Joey SI R S Left us a message that we are being sued. When we got message I called back. They asked for phone # . I asked where they located (there were other people in background on other phones). Of course you ask where are they in United States and person on phone would not answer and after asking three times they hung up. It was definitely an oversees call center and a SCAM.
