Never allow access to a cold caller.  They can NOT tell if there is a problem.  They can put malware or a virus on the unit though.

.this is to everyone who is reading this comment..

510-298-3228 IS THE CONTACT NUMBER FOR UTH BUT THEY HAVE CHANGED THE NAME TO OZEMIOINC TO AVOID THE BAD NAME FLAGGED WITH UTH AS SCAM THE CUSTOMER CARE NUMBER FOR OZEMIOINC IS 307-278-7081 THE NUMBER IS CHANGED BUT ITS THE SAME COMPANY SCAMMING YOU...

the best way to avoid these call for your computer is to hang up the call on there faces....again and again and again....but if by chance you fall for it.......  always call you bank or card company and dispute the charge as soon as you can never ask for a refund from the company directly, make no interactions with the company any further  let your bank handle it because if your bank creates a chargeback on these scammers it not only gets your money but also costs them (the company who scammed you) a huge amount of money for scamming you....never ever send cheque...as if you do you will never be able to chargback your money if you find out it was a scam later...and your bank will also be helpless to help you get the money back (its a new way these people have found out to avoid charge)...

since most of the banks in the UNITED STATES have stopped payment going to India...they have a new method of charging....they will charge you from UK....They have no HQ in UK OR US....but they will lie that they do...its just that they have a gateway registered in the UK to bring money through UK to India...

ITS called PCS credit Management the name of the gateway

JUST FOLLOW ONE THING GUY IF YOU ARE SCAMMED JUST CALL YOU BANK OR CARD COMPANY AND DISPUTE THE PAYMENT DONOT INTERACT WITH THESE PEOPLE AND DO NOT TAKE A REFUND IF THEY ARE OFFERING IT TO YOU

BECAUSE IF THEY REFUND IT SAVES THEIR SKIN, IT DOES NOT DAMAGE THEM

THE ONLY WAY TO DAMAGE THEM IS TO ASK YOU BANK TO CHARGEBACK THE PAYMENT

IT COST THEM (SCAMMERS) MONEY AND YOU WILL GET YOUR MONEY BACK THEN CHANGE YOU CARD DETAILS IF POSSIBLE

Thank you for the info. Is there any proof these people have used information gathered from the computer for future use - or do they mainly go for the fix-it payment money? Mainly curious if they are mining any other info off computers that that have gained access to.

Um ... we cannot cancel your card.
You fell for one scam, and are not on a sucker list being sent to other scammers.
The popup was generated by a scammer.
Did you give them access to your computer?

I had the same thing happen to me.  Computer started acting like it was possessed without me touching it; then I get a call. When you're caught off guard like that later in the evening, at first you think it's legit. Unfortunately I did give them a credit card # -- they wouldn't accept Discover (that's when some more alarms went off in my head) but took Visa -- but when phone call was over I called to cancel the charge. Scammers also just called -- their phone # is 510-298-3228 -- and I hung up on them. When I took the computer to the Geek Squad, first question they asked was, "Were they Indian?" As a matter of fact, yes. So, beware, they are tenacious!!
