No message was left. From the caller id info I assume it could be "California Police Activities League (PAL)" calling for donations.

According to http://www.charitynavigator.org/index.cfm?bay=search.summary&orgid=5797 their fundraising expenses are 64%.

Mr. Petrillo (if you really exist):
I will request that you remove me from your list after I check you out further, but I find your posting rather insulting.  What exactly do you mean by "simply and calmly give us the number... Please don't make this harder than it is."  For MONTHS you have been calling my home and hanging up, NEVER ONCE leaving a message.  Hard for whom?  You are abusing your 501 (c) 3 privileges.  The Police Activities League is a solid organization. I, for one, am taking this up with our local chapters. I can't quite figure our how these practices have come to be, and I suspect you are a runaway "service" making money off this.

Almost daily for the past 6 weeks. Today I actually spoke to someone. I was so happy there was actually a connect! She wanted to tell me about their predictive dialing system, but I just politely asked her to put us on their "do not call list". Hopefully that wull be the end of California PAL!!!!

Same here.  They call and hangup as soon as phone is answered.  If they keep doing this they are in violation of the law, be they a charity, a crappy charity with 60+ percent fund raising expenses ... whatever.  If they do this too often you CAN call the police, and they will take a report.  Make sure to keep a log if you go this route.

Just got a call from 510-373-3869. "Byron" asked me how I was doing. I said fine, thanks, and asked him nicely (before he could start the spiel) if he could do me a favor. "What's that," he said. Take me off your list, I said. "sure no problem," he said. I always do that and it seems to work. Interrupt and say, "hey, can you do me a favor?"

Not trying to upset anyone here.  Just want to help our kids!  We don’t get a lot of help so we have to call you just to keep the programs alive… Also I work directly for Pal.  So there isn’t a third party getting rich off any donations…Pal is a 501 c 3 non-profit charity and has been since 1971.  The program is made up of Police officers that coach and mentor 300,000 kids year round.  This means we can call anyone we like, however, we have a courtesy do not call list, in case you would rather not be called from home.  I can delete any one at any time and I understand your feelings.

So please just send me you info and I’ll take care of it ASAP… tpetrillo@calpal.org or you can leave a message at 510-686-8917… Thanks Everyone…Tim Petrillo… Branch Manager PAL

Tim,  Yes, you are NOT in violation of the "National Do Not Call" law.  However you ARE in violation of the normal state and local "Don't harass people with your phone" laws.  You can't call people day after day and hang up as soon as they answer.  Whether this is predictive calling, or that algorithm that makes sure that there is always somebody "online" when your live operators complete the last call, your auto-dialer is set too aggressively.  Back it off!!!  And over 60 percent fund raising expenses?  no doubt much of that money goes to the "officers" of your org.  Who is "helping" who here?

Receiving one call and politely asking the person not to call is understandable and the correct use of the non profit exemption to the “do not Call.” However repetitively bombarding people with a computer generated program that does not work is an abuse of the system.

Per Tim’s post as of December 2007, he is aware that his service is not working and continues to use it knowing it is harassing people. I foresee a class action if they call this attorney again.

I made the long distance phone call to them. Reached a computer answering service which first asked me to donate money, then explained how they feel they have the right to abuse their 501 to call people because it is the most financially beneficial to them.

Frankly, I used to donate money to the pals organization. But now that I know how little my time means to them, I no longer support them and will be sure to tell all my friends.
