robocall from 510-699-6380 caller ID said "LOCAL" on Monday 09-29-14 @ 249 PM

Pre-recorded message in males voice from Medical alert starting out loudly "Don't hangup .....you have been selected for a Free medical alert system by your Doctor or primary care physician.......blah....blah...blah ......press 1 to talk to a representative." I pressed one then came on a secondary message in females voice saying the company had been around since 1978, then she proceeded to give statistics about seniors falling and then doom statistics about seniors dying from falls.
The two messages took about 2:15 in length and finally a real person got on the line.
The rep said her name was "Jan" and asked if I was "responding to the call". I told her "yes I am" and immediately started
the "SCAMMER AIR HORN" at full blast.
It sure did not take "Jan" over 2 minutes to hang up.

They wanted to know who they were talking with - I said the homeowner you dialed. They finally hung up.
Dialed # back - Busy, and looked for the company name online - None there, which says TOTAL SCAM Alert!

As already posted ...I received probably 25 calls a month from these scumbags making their claims. They must have alot of different numbers to call from. I am not even going to bother to talk to people who prey on senior citizens and the phone companies allow this abuse to go on , so that some CEO can collect big bonuses. News Flash to these morons calling...no senior citizens live here...move on

To fight these scum you have to take action yourself..... the do not call list is a joke.  If you do not already have a call blocking service (or run out of space), do yourself a favor and get a call blocker box, and just plug it in to your phone line.....believe me, it will be the best money you ever spent.....lots of them out there, check Amazon,Google and Fleabay.   I got one last year and it only costs around $50.  It stores up to 1500 or so numbers and uses caller ID.   Just scroll thru the incoming call list and hit the blacklist button for the spam ones and presto, no more rings on calls from this number (you can also manually enter numbers to block, entire area codes or all out of area numbers).  It logs all calls in or out. Phone line is pretty quiet now as there are no repeat calls (although a lot of these spammers like this one have multiple numbers so you have to block each one as they come in).  Spammers have to hate these devices; it's always interesting to check the caller ID on the box periodically just to see how many times they try to call back (and get blocked).....

While I agree with your call blocking information, I do not agree with your comment that the DNC is a joke. Personally I do not want the legit business's also calling on top of all the criminal elements and illegal telemarketers and extortion scammers. Put the blame where it really lay's, with the criminals and illegal telemarketers.
The DNC works just fine. It is for telemarketers only and honest business does indeed abide by it. It is the criminals (which includes illegal telemarketers), frauds and scammers that do not. However, the Fed. DNC does not cover some survey's, Political or Charities.  You would need to check your states DNC laws to see if these are under your states DNC laws.  The fact remains that they are not automatic call blockers though and can not protect you from the calls that are criminal, illegal or fraudulent.

The DNC works just fine, you say.  So when is the last time you heard that the FCC enforced the DNC list and prosecuted violators?  The last attempt I heard was for Racheal from Cardholder Services, and .....guess what.....they still call.  The DNC list is a joke if you expect peace and privacy for the phone line you are paying for; and note that the politicians that created and passed this so-called registry in response to consumer's outrage to unsolicited calls got THEMSELVES exempted and put in enough loopholes to allow anyone calling themselves a charity or surveyor to call anyone at anytime with no consequences.  Do you really look forward to political hacks calling you with (usually negative) messages?  Or so-called charities which are simply telemarketers hired by charities who exploit these loopholes and usually keep most of the donations for themselves (Google Infocision or Associated Community Services for instance).  Bottom line is that no matter how many times a number is reported to the Fed DNC, they have done NOTHING to stop the calls.  Want to stop all unsolicted calls once and for all?  GET A CALL BLOCKER!!  Keep a list of all unsolicted political calls, and remember it come voting time.  Check all charities against the Charity Navigator site to see how much of the donations are actually spent, and check these links for examples of how some charities and telemarketers exploit the DNC and make millions from unsuspecting consumers:

* Your calls were not from legitimate telemarketers.
* Therefore, the DNC list will not stop those calls.

The DNC list does not automatically block calls.  Instead, it provides a list of  "do not call" phone numbers to legitimate, registered telemarketers who pay a fee for the list.

The DNC list exempts political callers, survey organizations,  charities, and companies with preexisting business relationships, as well as debt collectors, but these organizations might have their own, internal Do Not Call list (ask them).

The DNC list is not effective against criminals, spammers and scammers, because those people do not subscribe to the DNC list, and do not care if you are on or off that list.
Its purpose is to stop calls from legitimate telemarketers, and it does a pretty good job at that.  Just think ... if there were no DNC, you would be receiving incessant calls from BOTH legitimate and spamming telemarketers!

If you receive calls even after reporting them (and waiting a sufficient time), then you should consider using a call blocker app, device or service as your first line of defense.  Google "call blocker" to see such things at Amazon or other sites.

I get the extremely rare political call. I'm signed up on the political DNC as well. Usually when that occurs, I go to the particular candidates page, give them the url for it, tell em to use it and a DNC letter. Stops it cold. Rarely get a survey, and no, survey's that attempt to sell goods or services are not exempt from the DNC. Charities are not allowed to call via the state DNC here.  

I have a call blocker for the illegal callers, extortionist and scam operations. Very few calls since I implement a DN Answer ROT to begin with.

And One only has to read the news, visit the CCFPB, FTC and FCC web sites to see what they have done. Many articles are posted in the forum section when the regulars find them.

You might want to look into call blocking device. There are a number of models available. Do some reasearch to find the one that fits your needs.

Legitimate telemarketer?  Now THAT'S an oxymoron in my book.  I have yet to hear from anyone who feels that unsolicited calls from ANYONE selling something over the phone is anything more than an annoyance.  Do you really want to receive calls from telemarketers and then checking them against the DNC?   Unfortunately, most folks are not aware of the DNC list and this is the reason telemarketers exist......if it were set up as an OPT-IN function where consumers have to give permission for telemarketers to call their number, would YOU add your number to the list?

The greatest majority of complaints seen here are due to the scam / illegal telemarketers phoning people.  The callers are the telescum who ignore the DNC list, and have not registered for it.  The legitimate telemarketers do not want to get fined, so they follow the rules.

Um ... there IS such an opt-in function!
In Oct, 1993, a new rule was added ... callers cannot ROBOCALL without explicit, written permission from the called person.
Do you really think this stopped the telescum from robocalling?

So, there IS a difference between "honest" / "legitimate" telemarketers, and the telespammers who infest our phone system.  The former obey the law.  The latter really do not care.
