I got a call from this number and the voicemail said "not in service".  I have no idea who this is.

Yes, this is from California Check Cashing Stores,
This past Friday, I did a check advanced (times are hard right now) this was a recording call that my deposit check will be going to the bank this Friday

This is Correct.  It is a reminder for a pay day loan.  I work for this company, and am familiar with its procedures.

I received a call from this number as well, which is suspicious in the first place because it is automated. The second part was that the message said something to the effect of "If this is not GARBLED VERBIAGE HERE, please press 2." I promptly pressed 2 and it disconnected me. I did however get a cash advance earlier in the week from California Check Cashing Services so based on what you guys are saying this is a legitimate automated call.

It is California Check Cashing. I called them back and they said they call you two days in advance from when your payback is due. This is a legitimate number.

I do not know why they called me. I do not owe any money as I have not done any payday advances and so I could not owe any money. So they need to stop harassing me and find the real person they need to track and stop calling me.
