I've received three calls now from this number. They come in between 7:30 and 8:30pm. The caller ID says AVP, but I can't find any information on who this might be. I haven't answered it as I do no know who this is. Since they do no leave a message, I assume it's either a sales call or a fundraising call. I just renewed on the Do Not Call list about 3 months ago, as is recommended.

Encountered the same situation as Mrs. Shirley describes.  However, from what I understand about the do not call rules, is that fundraisers, political parties & companys that you do business with all have exemptions.  So there is little you can do to combat their pesky calls.

I have been receiving the same calls and the same time frame. But they ask for the wrong first name but they have my last name right. When I tell them this they just hang up. But then they call me back the very next night. I looked up the number on reverse lookup and it says the number is out of Oakland, CA.

It's a fundraiser. Tonight (7 pm) they called for Disabled American Vets (DAV). It showed up as "Unknown name" on my caller i.d.
However, if you call this number after hours you're greeted with a recorded voice: "Thank you for calling 'Donor Services Division'".  It then explains that they raise money for "many worthy causes from' (I don't remember what) 'to missing children".
It sounds ok (i.e. legit) but I still wish I had saved an L.A. Times article from a few months back in which they listed such Fund raising companies and what percentage they take compared to how much money the charity for which they are calling receives from a given donation.  I have no idea if this is one but some of these "fundraisers" turn very little of what they raise over to the stated charity-whichever it may be at the time.
