My Aunt received another one of these calls from this number this time leaving a message saying she must be in court for wire fraud (she has never wired money). No mailed notice, no court name or address, no other info except they gave her son's (who doesn't live with her as he is in his 50's) last 4 SS digits. Oh, and they left the call back number. I'm sure if she were to call back they would say she could settle this over the phone just verify the full SS # and pay by check/debit, etc. I told not to call back.
    Anyone else?

I received the same call from Christopher Black stating he was a criminal investigator and that there was a warrant out for my arrest because of wire fraud checks from a payday loanthat was never paid back.he had all my personal information even my children's names my employer where I worked. he also advised me I had to report a criminal court Monday March 3rd but did not tell me a court name I was never served  any paperwork. he scared the living daylights out of me and I foolishly paid him with my debit card linked to my checking account over the phone. only to find out that he has done this to many people and apparently he is a fraud. I had to contact my bank to close out my account and reach out to the police department who will further investigate. I feel so foolish that I fell for this but Christopher Black seemed very legit over the phone

Extortion Scam Related to Delinquent Payday Loans

    Washington, D.C.
December 07, 2010  FBI National Press Office
    (202) 324-3691

The Internet Crime Complaint Center has received many complaints from victims of payday loan telephone collection scams. Callers claim the victim is delinquent in a payday loan and must repay the loan to avoid legal consequences. The callers purport to be representatives of the FBI, Federal Legislative Department, various law firms, or other legitimate-sounding agencies. They claim to be collecting debts for companies such as United Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Net, and other Internet check-cashing services.

According to complaints received from the public, the callers have accurate data about victims, including Social Security numbers, dates of birth, addresses, employer information, bank account numbers, and the names and telephone numbers of relatives and friends. How the fraudsters obtained the personal information varies, but in some cases victims have reported they completed online applications for other loans or credit cards before the calls started.

The fraudsters relentlessly call the victim’s home, cell phone, and place of employment. They refuse to provide any details about the alleged payday loans and become abusive when questioned. The callers have threatened victims with legal actions, arrests, and, in some cases, physical violence if they do not pay. In many cases, the callers harass victims’ relatives, friends, and employers.

This Christopher Black sounded legit. He said because plain green was not able to debit my monthly payments that my account was sold to a criminal investigator firm. He was firm to say a warrant would be issued if I did not satisfy my debt. A warrant because its considered check fraud when you give an account to the debtor and the funds are not available. He said is giving fraudulent information over state lines because they are based out of Texas. I paid him $1833.00 today over the phone the only money I had to my name. I've spoken to Christopher  Black several times since  then and he said he is 100 percent legit and nowadays criminal investigators buy these past due accounts from loan companies because they are assured the money back. Im so confused. I don't know who to believe. This guy had me sick all day

Believe the posters who have talked to merchants, the police, and Federal agents, not some clown on the phone that will not ID himself or his agency.  Personally, I have 20+ years of experience working in the area of criminal justice and related fields).  I want to point out a few things.  First, debt is a civil matter, not a criminal matter.  What this means is that you can not be arrested for not paying back a loan (you can be sued though).  Second, no one calls to warn you that you will be arrested.   The suspect would simply go into hiding at best, or have a gun and shot me when I showed up to serve the warrant at worst. Doesn't make any sense does it? Third, wire fraud is a criminal charge (a Federal one by the way).  Has nothing to do with debt and civil matters

There is NO fraud, there is a default on repayment of a loan. Period! I don't know how they do it in Mumbai, but that's what it is here. Debt? Civil, not criminal. Foreign 3rd world criminals have been trying for ages to perpetuate this myth on 800 notes that debt is criminal. You give a loan officer the transit number from the bottom of a check, to your checking account. The funds are deposited into your account. There is NO check - there is NO check fraud. Not paying the debt is a default on repayment, and that is a civil matter.

Got a call from christopher black today saying i had insufficent funds in my account 2 yrs ago from plain green so i passed bad checks across state lines this is total bs. I called national credit adjusters who paid my account off they said its a total scam and they are trying to scare you. He even told me if i didnt pay i would go to jail. I ended up giving my debit card number but once i found out it was a scam i cancelled the card. I also called him back and funny enough once he has your info he doesnt answer his phone goes to voicemail. So he has a real "nice" message waiting! Dont fall for it and report him!

Today i reported "christopher black" to my local police dept. In minnesota because he called me again wanting a debit card or threatning i will go to jail yeah right. When i asked him if he would like to speak to the officer he said meet him at the police dept in an hour that was 5 hrs ago..... the police believe this to be a scam and told me they have nothing on me to arrest and they dont arrest for debt especially debts that are paid which mine is. Also the police or debt people would serve paperwork first and talk to you and the collection people are not allowed to threaten or use profanity. So the police have filed a report for me and told me to watch my bank accounts. Im tired of these scam people disrupting peoples lives its ridiculous and they get away with it. I have a seizure disorder and this man has caused me so much stress ive had 2 seizures today and prior to that none for a year. He needs to be stopped do not fall for it do not give him any money.
