Loa said she was doing a project for her Community college in Austin TX. I called the number back and a male answered. I told him that I had gotten a call from this number, he replied it was probably from his roomate. Asked my name and put me on hold. Hold? in a residence...interesting. Jimmy came on the line and said he was doing a research project for his community college. I asked what project, and he said he would look it up. As he was doing that,I told him it was an interesting method they had going considering it was a woman who called. He hemmed and hawed a bit and did not seem to know what to say. I told him to have a good day as I was laughing.

We get a lot of calls like this from this area. They seem to be more phishing for information or headhunting than being legit about a school project.

    Definetly a RED FLAG warning!

I am sorry I slept with your husband. He was not wearing a ring and did not tell me he was married. Please stop posting petty things with my phone number attached to them. Thanks

Did any of this make sense? This factual phone call can be tested by anyone here. Just call the number. Guess you "Community College students researching projects" will have to get a new number, huh.

Think she (Loa) is trying to hide something?

    Sure looks like it.

And now we are going to play the "call and hang-up" game today...lol

How many more times are you going to call and hang-up today, Loa?

How many times they call me a year, I dont know. They claim to always need subcontractors information to do a project. They are really gathering my information to call them months later and solicit BEWARE!

They dont stop calling even when you tell them that you know what they want and they cant have it. They just keep phishing and end up calling someone over my head. I have made everyone aware of what they are calling and to just hang up and report them.

I think it's pretty funny there are people that are so low they have to resolve to a career like this. I'm sure most of the people working at a place like this are not really going anywhere too much further with their lives.

By the way, ACC is the Austin Community College. I noticed that they will say The Community College IN Austin but NEVER mention ACC or say Austin Community College. Try to make them say it, things will get interesting after that.

I get calls from them all the time and keep them on the phone for a bit just to bring humour to my day.

This company is calling gathering information about subcontractors. The people that call from this company will say they were doing an "economics" project from the local community college in Austin. They will NEVER say Austin Community College or ACC. Their emails will only consist of the first 3 letters first & last names and will always end with the year. They are located at 4212 Medical Parkway in Austin, Texas.

Lisa Boynton called us about a project in Minnesota.  The number shows up, but the ID says "Blocked Call".  Said she was a college student in Texas.  I asked her to send me an e-mail from her college e-mail address.  I asked her to include a color scan of her student ID and Driver's license so that I could verify the accuracy of her story.  She told me that she would NEVER send that information out, then she hung up on me.  Pathetic.

it's not nice to talk down about someone's line of work. the employees are never informed as to what the information is being used for, only that it's not illegal and it's not harming anyone. all they know is they get paid and they get paid well. they're not harming anyone. they're just trying to pay their bills. they're gathering subcontractor information to sell advertisement space, not dealing crack. who are you to talk down on someone for trying to support their family? and in all fairness, it is public information. you don't have to give it to them, but they get it one way or another. maybe their phone calls get annoying, but at least they're not pimping out your 12 year old daughter for heroin. and to say they aren't going to advance in life because they work at a place like that is just down right ignorant. you don't know the people that work there. a lot of them are actually in school and extremely intelligent, but it's a bad economy. everyone is doing what they can to survive. so why don't you come down off of your pedestal and visit the real world. people are much nicer down here.

At least they are not sitting at their house raping the government for financial assistance when they can actually work. Who are you to judge? Jobs are not always easy to come by for some and the cost of living in Austin continues to rise every day. Most people are stuck in careers that they do not enjoy or actually just seem to hate; but hey guess what, it puts food on the table. All the info they ask for is available with or without your help. Instead of bashing on them for just doing a job that is completely legal, you should consider helping them collect the data they are asking for. Not only are you paying it forward but you are earning good karma since they receive bonuses on amount of information they are able to collect. Why not help your fellow man to achieve more in their lives? Your post is tactless and inconsiderate; you should be ashamed of yourself. You think its pretty funny that these employees are so "low" they have to resort to a job that pays well and has great benefits, well I find your post to make you look pretty low. You are bashing someone who is trying to support themselves by doing the right thing and not resulting to crime.  I want the employees of this telemarketing company to know that they do have a future and will keep moving forward in their lives. Keep making that money and dont allow negative people to bring you down.

Not likely that the poster will see this being that he posted in 2011!  Oh, and btw, if people are on the DNC list, then the "telemaggoters" you speak for ARE breaking the law!

It's crazy to me the misinformation people believe and perpetuate on the internet about the "DNC list".  First of all, it applies to TELEMARKETERS, aka: people trying to SELL YOU SOMETHING.  It's not a magic catch-all law that makes anyone who calls you for any reason into a criminal.  Calling a business and asking for information is not a crime, and ANYONE is entitled to do this.  The Do Not Call registry only limits phone calls that are designed to solicit MONEY.

    From Wikipedia:
"Placing one's number on the National Do Not Call Registry will stop some, but not all, unsolicited calls.
"The registry only applies to residential lines, not to business lines.[8]"
    From donotcall.gov:
"The National Do Not Call Registry applies to any plan, program, or campaign to sell goods or services through interstate phone calls."
"The National Do Not Call Registry does not limit calls by political organizations, charities, or telephone surveyors."

that if a survey company calls, and the called party tell them to add them to their internal DNC list/stop calling, that company is just as liable as those telemarketers if they continue to call.

Thank you ! I used to work there and they use the info to track trends in the market. Or at least that's what we're told. If project managers had complete subcontractor info they would be the only ones called.  It illegal immoral or unethical work and it's not easy.
