Got a call from a so call Steve Poe from the law office of Preston Powers & Stone and made a settlement with them to collect payments on a outstanding medical billing.

I keep getting called by this number, (512) 582-4800, at least 3 times during the day only. I am in school all day so I cannot answer the phone. I finally decided to answer the other day and was told I had an outstanding bill from about 6 yrs. ago and it needed to be resolved and that I had been contacted by mail about the situation already. I asked him what address they had and found out it was wrong, but instead of correcting it, he asked for an e-mail address because I wanted a copy of the statement. This was on Tuesday and I still have not received a copy of the statement by e-mail and when trying to call the number, it does not go through. What's the deal!?

If it's that old, there is a good chance it is past the statute of limitations.  Be very careful; if it's past the limit, but you pay on it, it starts the clock ticking again.  Check at  http://www.creditinfocenter.com/rebuild/statuteLimitations.shtml  to see if this is past the limit.  Also, consult a cousumer attorney in your town; they can also inform you regarding what is legally collectable.  I am not encouraging you in any way to avoid a legit debt, but since there are so many collection agencies engaging in unethical business practices, before you pay a penny, be sure:  
1.  It's your issue
2.  It wasn't paid
3.  They did, in fact, contact you (and sending something to the wrong addressk especially when you have given them the correct one doesn't count); if you look at the posts on this site just for this number, you'll find that this company's reps have a record of lying through their teeth.  Remember; collectors don't get paid if they can't get something out of you, so it is to their advantage to do whatever it takes to get money out of you.
4.  If you do decide that it is yours, is still legally collectable and you are going to pay, do not send one single penny until you have a written statement of what is owed, and a total.  Then, make those payments with money orders mailed to an address, and keep copies.  Do not, under any circumstances, give them your bank or credit card info
5.  If it turns out that this is bogus (and, judging from the above posts, it's very possible), log any and all calls after you inform them it is not you.  If you can get a physical address, send a cease and desist letter.  And, again, consult with a local consumer attorney.
If it turns out this is not you, and they continue to call and/or harass you, you may be able to sue THEM, but you need to keep those voicemails saved so you can provide the word-for-word message to that attorney.  A lot of Consumer attorneys will give you a free consult, and if they do think you have a case, may take it on a contingency basis, where you don't pay a retainer fee.
Don't let them scare you.  This bottom feeding agency is one of many who break every Federal Law available regarding debts and collections.  If they are on the level, they will have what you ask for; a written communication listing the original debtor, amount, and currently requested amount.  Good luck.

Thanks. I was kind of suspicious when I was told that the collection was for $20; that's why I asked him to verify my address and send me a statement.  There is no way that I would NOT have paid a bill that was for $20.  Thanks again!

i recieved a call from them on thursday steve poe working something out and now i call the number of 512=582-4825 and one ones answering my calls . they called me constantly and now nothing.

Got a call from Steve Poe about a bill. Called me con Stanley now they won't answer phone to solve problem.
