- SeanI got a call from this number about an hour ago. I didn't answer. They left no voice mail.
- Patricia TCalled; I didn't answer; left no message. This number (Austin) has called here before...
- Telco IT Guy| 1 replySCAM....Number from phone bank 512-717-9XXX. Those of you that let the calls roll to your answering machine, voicemail or worse yet answered the call you have just ensured you will receive more of these calls. Maybe not from the same number, but they’ve just identified your number as valid which assures more calls of these 'faux telemarketer calls'. (I call them faux telemarketer calls as they are generally not legitimate telemarketers, but simply scams!) Most of the initial calls originate from software (aka; ‘robocalls’) – once your number is identified as active, then a real person may be there on the follow up calls.
If you have the capability to ‘BLOCK’ the number that called – that is the best action. Since 2010 I have logged and currently block nearly 600 of these nuisance calls.
If you don’t have a blocking option, keep a phone with caller ID close by and simply hit ‘talk’ and ‘off’ simultaneously. This will reduce the number of nuisance calls, but not stop them.
If you really want to block them – in addition to a number of cordless phones available there is software that a layman can install. Of the over 500 calls I’ve blocked, I've only added 16 over the last 3 months. (Most of those are from a new series of numbers that were not previously blocked)
So the message is simple – blocking works…. Using the aforementioned processes I seldom have a second call from a given number. But, when I do - I love it when "Number Blocked" shows on my 'Caller ID!!! (When they call repeatedly it causes me to wonder about how stupid some of these dummies really are!)
Additionally; The Area Code, Exchange or even the entire number displayed on your caller ID probably does not accurately reflect the origin of a call as many of these crooks use software that disguises the originating number. (I've actually seen numbers reflecting my own Area Code and Exchange)
PS: I think Call Notes should add a 'Call Type' for 'Spoof' or 'Scammer Calls'!- Caller: SCAMMER
- EdScam they are useing a spoof number
- Digger replies to Telco IT GuyYour post should be required reading for anyone with a phone. Well thought out, cogent, easy to understand and 100% accurate. Thank you...now if in my smartphone idiocy I could figure out an easy way to block them on my cell phone, life would be beautiful! Thanks again for your post.
- BillScammer... Looking for $$$$ for some unknown org.
- Call type: Telemarketer
- Screener GalCaller ID says Austin Tx....and the area code is an Austin Texas area code....but I didn't answer....and they didn't leave a message....and I'm blocking them..... so they can go bother someone else in future. I wish they would leave their home number so I could call them and bug them all the time. Yep, I'm on the No Call List, but I don't think that helps much.
- Caller: Austin Tx is all that Caller ID shows.
- Call type: Telemarketer
- scam busterCID says "V22920200200017" which is an indicator that the number has been spoofed from somewhere "offshore," I think. In any case, it's a scam. Stupid stuff to have to live with. Alla y'all scammers are just one more wart on the rear end of humanity...
- Caller: scammer
- surprisedDaesh is running low on warm bodies and money. They want you contribution before the end of the year like you would ever do it or be stupid enough to think it's a tax deduction.
- Caller: isis recruiting
- ViolinfrmtxI've gotten calls numerous times from this number. My cable company, TWC offers a service called "no more robo calls," which acts like call blocking. It will ring one time on my phone and then is intercepted--a.k.a. TWC disconnects the call. I truly appreciate this service.
