Caller asked for me by name, and started in his speal about TX Troopers Assoc.....  The TX atty general has shut this group down 2 times so far because only pennies on the dollar go to their stated cause, and now they're back with a slightly changed name.

Called, but no message left on answering machine.  CID showed "Unknown Name".

Just received call. at 3:48 Labor Day  Took about 5 seconds to connect to a person and he asked for me by name.  Said they are raising money for death benefits for fallen police officers in the line of duty.   I told him no, he would not let me hang up and kept talking.  Finally I told him no again and that I would look into this myself because I thought the officers did already have death benefits.  He kept talking and I hung up and blocked the number.

I just got that same call tonight, October 27, 2015, at 8:47pm.  At first I was just surprised at how late the call was but after he gave me the same story you mentioned above and asked if they could count on a one-time donation from me and I replied that I have recently incurred many medical bills myself....HE HUNG UP ON ME!  I was mid-sentence when he hung up.  I was in shock.  You are calling me at this late hour for money and then have the nerve to hang up on me when you don't get a yes?  I'd love to report this to someone.

Charities, along with some Survey's and Political calls, are exempt from the DNC, however, they can still get into trouble for not placing you on a internal DNC when asked, you can also check your states laws in regards.  Some states have different laws in regards to the calls,  which can differ from the federal but as far as I know, Oregon is the only one that does not allow Charity calls.

Do consider maybe getting a call blocking device or phone.. You can google them and many are around $40.00 or less. If its a cell phone, some already have call blocking, if not, there are free apps on the web that will work for some. You can google this. If you have a smart phone, there is a free app called call control. Iphones appear to have apps also. Another one is called Mr. Number.
