- tootie| 3 repliesExpecting important call. Call came in during lunch and asked for me by first name. Fund raiser! Not interested. I consider this an invasion of privacy. Uninvited Intrusion! Being on the No Call Register does not work!

A woman asked for the lady of the house (who's been dead for 12 years) I informed her of this fact and hung up. Didn't give her a chance to hit me with whatever agenda she was pushing. - A Survivor| 2 repliesCaller ID said "CHILDRENS CANCE"
The BBB has no listing for this number, and the only organization that started with these words is out of business.
What kinds of creeps would use such a blatant play on emotion? - Sir Bedevere replies to A Survivor| 1 replyIt's likely to be a "real" charity, but one that keeps 90% of the donated money for themselves and only 10% to the cause it purports to be supporting. There's one called "Children's Cancer Recovery Foundation" that is highly suspicious and keeps calling me.
As for what kind of creeps would do such a thing. I think you already know the answer to that one. - LeftyThis call is designed to make it look like it's local, i.e. someone you want to talk to. The lady was nice, asked for me by name, but as soon as I told her that I don't make donations via phone or mail she hung up on me. If you call the number back, you get a long-winded voice mail about the charity -- and then a message saying the voice mail box is full. Not sure who I should report this to.

- CindyJust got a call from this number on my caller ID it said Austin, TX and the lady asked for Cindy, I said this is her and then there was a noise in the back ground and she hung up. Unsure what this is all about, but it looked sounded like a possible scam. She never called back neither.
- Joe ScrunchPhone rings. I don't recognize the number. Let it go to VM. No message left. Number now assigned to silent ringtone to be discarded at the end of the day. Works for me.

- S| 1 replyReceived a call from them this morning. It is a fundraiser company for children's cancer and they ask for the lady of the house because they think we are softer touch. This lady did a really hard sell and when I explained that we don't have the money to donate then she began to talk over me and would not allow me to continue. I kept saying, "excuse me" to her over and over and she refused to stop her script. Finally, when she had finished her script about 10 seconds later, I told her I didn't appreciate the hard sale techniques and to never call here again.
I looked up their charity and they are really small time and have a bad rating (2 out of 5 stars) which means they are basically doing for the money and paying themselves more than the children's they claim to help. Don't fall for this, if you want to give money to help kids with cancer give it to St. Jude or find a reputable charity. Don't let these people guilt you into giving them one penny.- Caller: Children's Cancer Recovery Foundation

- GaryHGot a call from this number this morning. I didn't answer because the caller ID showed Childrens Cance. Another charity scam I suppose.

- slg| 1 replyIf it is a real charity, it would have its name on caller ID. On my caller ID, it says Austin, Texas. Also must charities use a toll free number.
- LeighpersonMy husband picked it up, thinking it was my sister. The caller asked for if our teenage daughter was there. He asked, “Who wants to know?” They came back with, “Well, I can talk to either of you,” as if they knew who we were personally.

- bigtexcall from 512-831-5441 at 1244 PM today. Caller ID said "CHILDRENS CANCE." Lady asked for William, I told her no William was there and she had the wrong number. She said "Oh well, I'm sure you can help us." I then told her that I couldn't help her and to never call me again! Real charities usually have a toll free number. This number must be a pro fund raising organization that keeps 90% of the money they collect. I never donate to anything over the phone.
- Caller: Children's Cancer Research
- Call type: Telemarketer
- KCFJust called. I gather they're some sort of charity solicitor, and for once, I'm glad I've been too lazy to clear the memory on my answering machine. They don't even get to leave a message, the machine hangs up on them for me.
Yay laziness!- Caller: Austin, TX
