this is a scam that has apparently been a problem in numerous cities in Arizona, including the Phoenix area (i posted to that number also, as it came up when i did a google search for "Metro Delivery scam").

we have had three door hangers left on our house in the past month; neither number on the tag is a working phone number (Austin 512-942-6211 or San Antonio 210-515-5276), and of course the Metro Delivery website is "down."  this morning i tried to wave down/stop the person who came up to put it on our door, but she RAN back to her car and sped off (didn't get the license plate - this time).

i don't consider this telemarketing; it's unadulterated harassment, and i consider it a personal threat.  we put a note on our door warning them to stay off our property, which i still think is the "nice" way to handle it.  i certainly have no qualms about reinforcing the phrase Don't Mess with Texas, if it comes to that.

I've got a tag on the front side of my house, and it shows my name, and leave the exactly same info as #1, San Antonio Metro, 210.515.5276 Austin Metro, 512.942.6211. also w/ the confirmation number. I've called back twice, and no reply at all. Just wondering whether it is a scam since my name is there.

We got a tag from metro delivery a couple weeks ago and we were not expecting any package either. When I tried calling the Austin number, it sent me to a voicemail and I left a message. No one called me back. Today, I saw a lady run up to my door and leave a tag but didn't ring the door bell. By the time, I went to the door to get it, she ran back to her car and sped off. This time, I called the San Antonio number 210-515-5276 and someone answered. The agent asked me for a confirmation number but couldn't pull up anything. Then she asked me for an address and when I gave it, she said that they have a welcome package for us with tons of coupons and that she can email them to me. I was furious and started to complain politely that this is a waste of my time and that they shouldn't be doing such things. The agent was rude and told me that the longer I spoke with her over the phone, the more time I am wasting and hung up. What a scam!!! I found this on the internet: http://austincommunity.livejournal.com/7781616.html

These people just came and dropped off another flier. This is the 3rd time since moving in a month ago. I saw them do it this time. An overweight African-American man and overweight white woman were in a beat-up older car, light tan/brown-colored. They pulled up in front of my house, and a little African-American boy got out of the back seat, ran up to the front door, put the flier on the door handle, and ran back to the car. I didn't get a make/model of the car because I was trying to read the license plate, but it was a temporary plate and the numbers were smaller and too hard to read from my front doorstep. They saw me looking as they turned around, and the man in the driver's seat just waved and drove off. I had read the forums about the company the last time they left a flier, so I knew it was a scam, and haven't called the number.

Same thing here; saw an overweight woman run up to the house from down the street (where her car was parked).  She left the note on the door, then ran as fast as she could away from the house, back down the street to her car, got in and drove off.

From what I read at http://austincommunity.livejournal.com/7781616.html, this is part of a scam where they are looking for people that don't have alarm systems, and then they stake those homes to rob.

I checked out their website, http://www.metrodeliveryaustin.com/, and it is very suspecious.  For starters, it is a delivery service with no log in information on their website.  They mention tracking, but there is nowhere to put in tracking information to track a package.

    Their address is:
    Metro Delivery, Inc.
    1905-B Willow St.
    Austin, TX 78702-4503
    (888) 490-6122 - (which is strangely simular to the 512.942.6211 number the note at the door has)

The "company" is located in a house, as shown here on Google Maps:
    http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&bav=on.2,or ... 739368963860204

A search of the address also brings up this MySpace page:
    http://www.myspace.com/secretoktober

They also appear to be doing business as Secret Oktober

    The About Me page says:

I am a small business and located at:
    1905-B South 1st Street
    Austin, TX 78704
    512-462-9217

We also sell concert tickets for Elysium unless otherwise noted.

    IMPORTANT!!!

Mark,  you are wrong.  The website http://www.metrodeliveryaustin.com/ IS NOT the website of the entity which is leaving flyers on people's doors.  Please do not confuse METRO DELIVERY, INC., a legitimate Austin moving company incorporated and filed with the Texas Secretary of State, with this group.  We have attempted to identify and locate the individuals who are leaving these flyers on doors so that we can attempt to stop them from using the name, Metro Delivery, but have been unable to do so.  Please don't make matters worse for this legitimate company by spreading false rumors.

Metro Delivery Austin is NOT the company delivering those door hangers. & to answer your comment Mark about the phone similarity... Metro Delivery Austin did not choose the toll free # it was bought & paid for then issued. We were advised to relate to all the folks calling about those door hangers to contact your local Better Business Bureau with any complaints, questions, comments, or concerns. Metro Delivery Austin is formerly Austin Moving and has been providing delivery services to the greater Austin TX metro area since 1992. I have paid for phone #512-832-1895 since 1988. Please do not confuse us with San Antonio Metro: 210.515.5276 Austin Metro: 512.942.6211 Metro Delivery Austin 512-832-1895 is in "NO WAY" associated with that company. Regards Pete Guerra

Same news here - got a postcard dated 7/8/11 from "Metro Delivery" saying "Sorry We Missed You" with my full name and home address in handwriting. I did not call the number (512-942-6211) as I was not expecting and packages and knew it was most likely a scam, but now I've gotten another spam postcard from a different company, which makes me think my private info has been leaked through some list. Ack!

But now I'm scared about it being a test to see if I have a security system so they can rob me (as mentioned above). What should I do? I filed a Mail Fraud Complaint already with the (https://postalinspectors.uspis.gov/forms/MailFraudComplaint.aspx) but don't know what else to do.

We recently moved into our home by Rolling Oaks Mall and received a note on our door 'Sorry We Missed You" Please call to reschedule San Antonio Metro.  I did call (210-515-5276) and was told that they were delivering coupons from local businesses with up to $1000 in free groceries.  Also one of the businesses was interested in installing a free burglar alarm.  Told them I already had one and then they changed the subject that they could email me the coupons.  Let's see if they do.

Aparently if they had in the past used the name "Metro Delivery" they have changed it and now only use Metro" but it aparently is a scam looking for easy marks. Since I am retired and am at home most of the time and well armed against such things and have my daughters house wired (that's where they delivered the tag) and she has a security system besides just me I hope they do come back! Texas can be a very dangerous place to run this kind of a scam and rural Texas can be even scarier.

The Metro Delivery in Austin IS NOT the same group posting these fliers.  I called the 888-490-6211 number someone had listed here as associated with this tag, but it is NOT the same.

File a complaint with your Better Business Bureau.  I think the Metro Delivery should consider trademark infringement claims, but that's just me.

When I called the number left on the flier 512-942-6211, I was hung up on after I said "I'd like to know what this business is before providing any information.". Can't figure out what this is all for.

No one is going to get shot.  Not for hanging a piece of paper.  Besides, these people could carry weapons with that very thought in mind; I'm sure they've run across some less than personable home owners such as yourself.

VERY thankful for y'alls posts. I got the same flyer on my door & almost called the number as I am expecting a package. I thought it was strange however that I was receiving a delivery from Austin when I live about an hour away from there. Glad I did a little research!

Be advised the cards they are hanging on doors now bear the name "Compass." I called the number, gave them a fake email address and recorded the call, with the audio file to be forwarded to the Austin PD. They must really underestimate people's ability to use Google.

This group of people are casing neighborhoods and looking for homes to rob. Report these "door tags" to your local law enforcement agencies, and be sure to alert your neighbors. Do not call the phone numbers listed on this tag. Do not give these people the "confirmation number". Do not give these people any personal information. They are looking for homes to rob. I happened to be at home while one of these tags was being placed on my door. The person leaving the tag tried opening my door which was locked. I heard them trying to open the door, and when I went to look outside I could see them RUNNING back to their car. This is a scam. If you received a doortag, your home is being cased by criminals. BEWARE.

I received one today. I'll be taking it to the police station. Thank you everyone for this message board. My first reaction was to Google the business because I wasn't expecting anything. Wish I wouldn't have touched it and called the police instead. But at least I know it was a scam. So Thank you.

Compass Delivery is the FORMER name of a legit delivery service in Austin. There is a delivery company that is still operating under a different name that USED to be named Compass.  Maybe the scammers are banking on the fact that some victims might recognize the name from before and think it's legit.

Clearly a scam.  Received a postcard from "Compass", w/ name handwritten along with confirmation # and address.  Called the Austin number listed as 512.942.6211 (San Antonio also listed as 210.515.5276).  When asked for a confirmation #, I asked what type of business they were attempting to conduct.  The response: "you can call back when you are less condescending about the type of business I do... this is a legitimate business to schedule deliveries for new homeowners".  Well, I'm not a new homeowner, but I am considering being condescending in the future.

Since moving into Round Rock, I have also received fliers from this bogus company.  I was immediately suspicious like all of you and did not have a good feeling about this.  I talked to the police and will be speaking to them again as often as they leave these fliers.  Considering the number of posts since I found this page I think the best thing we can do is to tell as many people and spread the word to find out who these people are.

I know that some local stations sometime do investigate reports on scams and things like this.  Maybe they would have some interests since clearly multiple people in this area are being affected.  Does anyone know who to contact at places like KXAN, KVUE, etc. to see if any of their investigative reporters would have any interest in this kind of story?  I am going to be researching this and if I find any information I will post it here.  Maybe if enough people contact the local news, there will be interest and someone can find out what we can't or at least spread the word if these people are casing houses.
