Someone from this number phoned my mother and said that I had listed her as a reference for a job I had applied for.  They said they needed to verify my employer, my salary, and my date of birth.  Of course I had not applied for a job anywhere -- am in fact happily employed -- and would not use my mom as a work reference anyway.  When she questioned the caller, the caller was very vague about when I had applied and said she could not release the name of the company she was calling on behalf of!
