Breast Cancer Research and Support Fund looking for someone named Timothy (NOT me). Told her she must have wrong number. I think she already knew this and said well maybe you can help and started here story. At this point I hung up.

I have gotten a call like this before too and they also asked for someone else that was not me and when I said they had the wrong number they did the same thing!  I am so sick of getting these calls and I usually don't answer numbers I don't know but I was waiting on a phone call that day.

A little internet search shows this to be another of the fake cancer telemarketers with the sound alike name of a real charity. also asked for my daughter but would talk to me instead

Lady called, asked for David, told her she has wrong no., she proceeded w this is the Cancer Research... will you make a donation for x no. of $ and so on. I asked her again for the name of her co. and she hung up.

My number is on a do not call list.

It's fake because a real place would obey the law on making calls like this to a cell phone.  Check your own state laws.

Tried calling back and ****gasp****I got a busy signal. What to do. Oh no!!!!!

Got a call asking for my daughter but wont say why or leave message.

They called looking for my deceased father and once I said he's been dead for 3 years she continued with maybe you can help me so I repeated that he has been dead for 3 years and she said I'm sorry I'll update my records. Yeah. You better.

This number called my cell phone.  I never answer when I do not recognize the number.  Googled the number: first hit was this website where I am now writing this comment.  Second hit gave me a full name and address in Dayton, Ohio.  Tempted to call Jennifer K. and ask if she'd donate to my charity, S.C.A.M. (Stop CAlling Me).

Same, didn't answer.
Rejected the call.
Haven't got any of these in months.

I have NO idea of how I got onto all of these lists, but I am getting up to 5-6 calls like this a day, 7 days a week!

If you ever posted your phone number on a social site, or used it when ordering online, or typed it in an insecure computer, or gave it to a friend whose computer was attacked, or filled out an entry form at a fair or a supermarket, or used it on a contest entry form, or put it on a postcard for a magazine or purchase, or were among those whose information was hacked from some organization, or obtained a "new" phone number ... your number is probably known to the scammers.

Allow me to present another possibility in a very simple fashion ... not to insult your intelligence, but to attempt to get the idea across to even those who have difficulty understanding more complicated answers.

If you answered "yes", that is a good start.  Try counting from 1 to 10 now.  I will wait.

I want you to think "0" instead of "10".  Got it?
Now, get a piece of paper and a pen or pencil, and write down those ten numbers.  Here, I will help you, in case your forgot:

Now get ready to write down some more numbers.  I want you to write them down in the following format:
ABC-DEF-GHIJ
Yes, I know those are letters, but I want you to use numbers, instead.
Think of a number between 0 and 9 ... pick one from the list I gave above, if you wish.
Write it down, instead of the "A", above
Do that nine more times, writing it down instead of the other letters.
Now, look at the result.
Does it ring a bell?
It should, because you just wrote down a phone number!

Mr Computer is very good at making numbers.
Mr Computer can do what you just did in a fraction of a second.
In other words, Mr Computer can make and dial phone numbers VERY quickly.

Spammers and scammers who know about Mr Computer do not need to register and buy the DNC list.
Spammers and scammers who know about Mr Computer can even dial "unlisted" numbers, or "private numbers" or "brand-new numbers you just got"!
The DNC list is not a magic switch that blocks these calls from reaching your phone.  It is merely a list.  It is NOT a call blocker!

There, now you know all about how spammers can dial YOUR phone number, even if it is unlisted, and even if only relatives know it, and even if it is on or off the DNC list.

I hope that helps prove the DNC list DOES work!  It helps prevent calls from registered / legitimate telemarketers, but it is not able to stop calls from telespammers.  It is also NOT designed to stop political callers (who usually get the numbers from voter registration lists), calls from charities, or some other companies, such as debt collectors; or companies with which you have done business in the last 18 months.

Called asking for someone else.  I asked who the hell they were.  They said they were calling about breast cancer and went into a pitch.  I told her I hoped she got breast cancer and died.  About 5 seconds later she realized what I said, stopped her pitch and hung up.

Another Charity scam set to sound as if it is a real person. Responds to certain key words regardless of its context. If you say "I can't help you and have to go because my food is burning" responds with "We understand, we have smaller levels of support and would we count on you". Very "pushy" and "intrusive" for my comfort.  Caller ID came up as tasha thomas so I don't know if it was a spoofed number are is that the actual person.

Unsolicited calls to my cell phone which is on "do not call" list.

Asked for spouse by name, told them not home.  Said actually, we're calling for both of you.  Started the Breast Cancer Research blah, told her not interested and hung up.

Call came to my cell, but (surprise) no voicemail message. Delete.

I answered and after twice saying "hello?" they hung up.

Do not call means nothing unless it's dealing with a reputable company.  Best thing anyone can do is block the number.

As for the cell phone comments...no one knows your number is a cell phone...so how do you expect them to magically obey some law about not calling cells???
