Fake charity group calling constantly to collect donations.  It's a total SCAM !!!   They will call you non stop !

Called & left no message. These calls have been made on a regular schedule. We deal directly with the Breast Cancer organization, where they receive 100% of the donation. Not the 5% from these scammers

Thank you so much for letting me know. I too have been getting repeated calls from this number now I know better than to answer their phone calls.

These calls are such a nuisance.  I've been bombarded with them.  I believe they started last fall when a nice neighbor on my block collected for the American Heart Association.  (Her husband did die from one).  I donated and shortly after, the calls started.  I AHA (Heart Assoc) to remove me from their call list.  Then I heard from Breast Cancer, Children's Cancer, Veteran's Fund, Ronald McDonald, Pro LIfe Campaign, Law Enforcement.  Too much!  Last year I would check my caller id on the tv and see 9 - 11 calls in one day!  I don't answer most of the time, reported some to FCC.  On top of that, the requests from other charities still come daily in the mail.  Now I understand why some people NEVER give.  It's a shame.

What options does one have to defend against intrusive callers?

• The Do Not Call list (Federal or State)
Works, but is effective against ONLY "legitimate" telemarketers.  Charities, political callers, surveys and some other callers are exempt.   Scammers, spammers and criminals ignore the DNC list.

• Shouting, screaming, swearing at the caller
Nope.  Does not stop calls.  May make you hoarse, and will disturb nearby people.

• Call blocker app, device or service
Could be a good choice (even though the scammers can use fake phone numbers), and some apps are free!
Google "call blocker" for more information, or check your favorite online sales site for a list.

* Your phone provider may also offer blocking services.  Check their web page for information.

If you cannot use any of the above defenses, then:
• Do not answer calls from unknown numbers ... let them go to voicemail or answering service
• Do NOT return calls from unknown numbers!  All that does is verify your phone number!  And, in some cases, those return calls may cost $20 or more to complete.

• If you have a "dumb" cell phone, assign the scammer's number to a group named "scammers" (or similar).  Then, assign a silent ringtone to that group.

My friend recently had a phone call telling her her computer had a virus - the caller had a heavy Indian accent.  I noticed a number from them too on my caller id (forget it now - when I entered it here 800Notes - others complained about it too).  Another scam to watch out for!

They called again at 8:15 am!  I didn't answer.  They try to get you every month??  Can't stand these people.

Had about seven calls in two days, all from Tricia, from the supposed Breast Cancer Awareness (516-277-8422).  Then, had another call about an urgent computer error.  So sick of all these scammers, I have decided to have my phone turned off!!!!!

I have the same problem. Even if you block the annoying numbers, the eventually use another and the harassment starts all over again. I am also going to get rid of my home phone for this reason. What a shame that it comes to this because of some annoying scumbag telemarketer scammers. This is a form of harassment, and should against the law.

This number calls from 8 am - 9pm ! I don't answer because I don't know who they are. I know it is not a bill collector, I am not in debt.

I'd love whomever is making these calls to get end stage cancer of any kind!
I work nights and these SOB's call 8-9 AM as well as 8-9 in the evening, according to my wife!

Charities, along with some Survey's and Political calls, are exempt from the DNC, however, they can still get into trouble for not placing you on a internal DNC when asked, you can also check your states laws in regards.  Some states have different laws in regards to the calls,  which can differ from the federal.

Do consider maybe getting a call blocking device or phone.. You can google them and many are around $40.00 or less. If its a cell phone, some already have call blocking, if not, there are free apps on the web that will work for some. You can google this. If you have a smart phone, there is a free app called call control. Iphones appear to have apps also. Another one is called Mr. Number.

Caller ID "BREASTCANCERCHA" ... MAY 13 at 6:41pm Eastern time. This call ended after one ring. It may have been blocked by a free service I subscribe to which is available to most Internet-based VoIP phone service users(I have Time Warner). Google "No more robocalls" to get more information. Started getting these calls and I can tell you that with all the phony calls I receive charity will suffer---the only way i will give donations is directly to a cuase that I know---since there are so many calls that are scams I will not donate that way anymore---it is a shame but those phone callls are so annoying---the only way to make sure you are not donating to a SCAM IS NOT TO DONATE TO ANY!
