- Janice| 1 replyThe person in the recording claimed to be with the IRS and wanted a call back. The IRS will not call you asking for information, but will communicate through the mail. This is definitely a scam.
- Caller: IRS
- DICKClaimed to be Nicki Johnson from IRS, wanted a call back about "... extremely time sensitive information ... before they take any action against you." Can't believe the IRS would use recorded calls to contact people. Please don't call and report to your local authorities.
- Caller: Unknown spammer

- Alfalfa replies to RickThese are criminal extortionists operating in overseas boiler rooms using VOIP to alter their identities and locations and out of the reach of US law enforcement.
If someone calls saying he's an IRS agent and demands that you send money immediately, hang up.
It's a phone scam.In fact, it tops the IRS "Dirty Dozen" list of tax scams this year, and it's been surging in recent months, the agency said Thursday.
The Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration (TIGTA), which oversees the IRS, has received reports of 290,000 scam calls since October 2013 and said nearly 3,000 victims have been swindled out of $14 million so far.
By altering their caller ID number to make it look like they're calling from an IRS office, these scammers often threaten vulnerable people like the elderly and new immigrants with things like arrest, deportation or the loss of their driver's license if they don't pay immediately for money purportedly owed.
Often leaving messages that say it's "urgent" you call them back, the scammers use common names and sometimes say they are from the IRS Criminal Division. They may even claim to know the last four digits of your Social Security number and send follow-up emails that appear to be from the IRS, TIGTA said.
They often demand that payments be made by prepaid debit card.
Once they make their threats, the scammers have been known to call back and again disguise their caller ID so it appears they are calling from the police department or the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV).
Or sometimes when they call, they may say you have a refund due and ask you to provide personal information so you can claim it.
The real IRS will usually contact you by regular mail first, if it needs to contact you at all. And the agency never demands immediate payment by phone or asks for credit card or debit numbers if they do call. It also never asks for personal or financial information by email, text or social media.
If you get what you suspect is a scam call, report it to TIGTA through its Web site or call 800-366-4484.
http://money.cnn.com/2015/01/22/pf/taxes/irs-tax-scams/ - CoraI received a voice mail from officer Nicki Johnson from IRS. She said "it is extremely time sensitive and do not disregard this notice. I need to call back her division hotline # 516-554-0111 before they take any action against me". I believe I do not owe IRS anything. They should send a mail instead of making a phone call. I called this number and talked to Robert Williams and then the call was cut for no reason at all. I called back again and talked to Keith Morgan. He said I owe IRS $8,936.39. He said they sent a letter to my address 2x already but I have not received anything up to now. He asked me if I have an attorney and told him I don't. He said there will be an officer who is going to arrest me anytime.
I believe they cannot do that without any court order. And he hangs up afterwards maybe he is trying to just cut our conversation. Also if somebody owes IRS they just can garnish from current salaries.- Caller: IRS
- latoyaI received the exact recorded message from 5165540711.When I called back 4 times the same man with an indian accent "Donovan or Johnathan Davis" answered each time claiming to be apart of the IRS wanted to confirm contact information. He hung up on me 4 times when I tried to find out what this was regarding. Definitely a scam. Please do not give them any of your information or time. Since they are impersonating a government agent, why isn't action being taken to find who these people are???
- Caller: claims to be a division of irs

- Ellen| 1 replyI also had a voice mail msg. from a Nicki Johnson with the IRS. Claiming it was urgent that I call back & not disregard. However, it was not a "live" person - it was a recording. The number was 516-554-0111. Even before I looked at the above comments - I believe this to be a scam as the IRS sends letters if there are any issues to be dealt with such as potential tax fraud -for example if you know you have NOT filed your taxes and receive a letter saying you have, but it is being reviewed, Then you receive a toll free number to call.
- Caller: they called to be the IRS
- knowbetterCaller claimed to be IRS agent. Asked for the last 4 digits of my social sec. no. I gave him bogus numbers and he said that is correct (he obviously would have accepted any no. I gave him.) I kept him going on the phone a couple of minutes and then I asked him to repeat the last four digits of my SSN. He couldn't do it. I asked him how he could be an IRS agent when he didn't even know my SSN. He hung up.
