Scam caller looking for easy mark

found out the call is from a landline in Massapequa, ny

I called back the number and the person on the other line was a well spoken gentlemen looking for a donation to the police falling Heros fund.

This caller asks for a donation for a charity that has the word police in its title not sure exactly what they said and asks for $45 if you ask for something to be mailed to you they say they will send you a donation package but then they ask for your credit card number or you can make a check payment over phone right now, we just hung up. It must be a scam.

these guys never give up their scamming - do not really get too many of the jerks on my cell phone, but got one today. of course, after viewing number, I DID NOT ANSWER!!!!

In my opinion this is another bogus operation taking advantage of the loopholes in the do not call registry.

Guy said he was looking for donations to police conference charity...called as we were getting ready to have dinner....hung up in the middle of his speil. I am so sick and tired of these types of calls.

No..no..no! DO NOT give money to anyone asking (they claim) on behalf of the police. My local police have advised over and over again..they DO NOT ask for donations. They DO NOT hire or contract people to make calls for donations. If you want to donate..buy a ticket to the Policeman's Ball. All that money goes to Widows and Orphans. That is the ONLY way the police take donations.

Well spoken actual person/gentlemen reading a script about fallen heroes of new york.  Asked what the "miminum donation" I could give "without hurting" myself.  So bizarre and a clearly a scam.  I said I dont' even live in NY and he said "thank you for your time".

When this number first called, it sounded suspicious.. not in the fact that it was a scam but the responses of the person seemed to be a bit.. off, after finding this website and confirming it was a scam, I made a call back, with the same sounding gentlemen who said the same exact thing when I picked up the phone the first time, and using this information from "Roberta" asked the question, "I was informed that the police department dose not make phone calls for donations, is that correct?" his response was "unhun" indicating to me that this is a new age type of telemarketing program developed by CISCO, based upon the callers responses, it plays back a file thinking you are talking to someone, but really it's just picking up on keywords that your saying to play the right file. When I asked where his location is, he said California, indicating that this program is used national and not just in new york state.  Whatever this "Company" is, they must be running something more then just a simple police scam, they can be many scams running all at once, collecting funds.

Don't fall for it. Don't give the computer any of your money.

I had a similar experience to what's been posted. The guy had a very robotic but smooth pitch, asking the same question about donating to the "Police Conference 2014". When I later asked where he was calling from he actually laughed. I said"that's what I thought" and hung up.

unwanted calls overt a period of months saying he is from some police organization. I would do anything to stop this person or get back at him

same caller, same info, told him husband a cop, and they dont call asking for money. its called the police and widow fund, no such hero police fund.

The police would never call you for a donation. It is against the law. Scammer we are on to you. Beware.

They called yesterday and today 1st time I didn't anwser second time I did and knew it was a scam . I started to ask him questions and he kept saying the samething over and over trying to get money and making his donation amount lower and lower to try and get me to send money lol. I called him a joke and hung up .
