- Jen| 4 repliesSomeone claiming to be Attorney Walter Francis from Robbins and Associates in New York, New York called me from this number stating I am being charged with 3 felony counts of stealing money from Cash Advance for an online Loan. Claimed that they never had to inform me by mail, that they were pursuing this legal action. Also claimed that I will be arrested tomorrow morning at 11am for not paying him over $900 at this moment. Also told me it was against the law for him to give me his business address. He is legally only allowed to provide his name and number.
This is the second time these same people have called and tried to harass me about a stupid online Cash Advance. They need to be stopped. The first time I believe they called from a 312 area code. I spoke directly with that attorneys office and they knew about the scam, and were trying to stop it.- Call type: Debt collector
- David Young replies to JenWhat did your attorney say to do about this call?

- Carl QThis person just called my job with that same foolishness. He had a lot of my old information but he would not give me the number to Cash Advance. I'm a police officer. If there was any criminal conduct on my part, my job would have called me into the office by now.

I then called back and asked him to tell me again why he was calling and to speak clearly so that the police department could get all of the information. They hung up on me again. I called them again and began taunting them. I told them that they will be found and go to jail for what they are doing. I made several calls after that harrassing them like they do us and they have now blocked my number. Beat them at their own game! If we all do it, they will stop! — filed under: Press Release
The Internet Crime Complaint Center has received many complaints from victims of payday loan telephone collection scams. Callers claim the victim is delinquent in a payday loan and must repay the loan to avoid legal consequences. The callers purport to be representatives of the FBI, Federal Legislative Department, various law firms, or other legitimate-sounding agencies. They claim to be collecting debts for companies such as United Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Net, and other Internet check-cashing services.
According to complaints received from the public, the callers have accurate data about victims, including Social Security numbers, dates of birth, addresses, employer information, bank account numbers, and the names and telephone numbers of relatives and friends. How the fraudsters obtained the personal information varies, but in some cases victims have reported they completed online applications for other loans or credit cards before the calls started.
The fraudsters relentlessly call the victim’s home, cell phone, and place of employment. They refuse to provide any details about the alleged payday loans and become abusive when questioned. The callers have threatened victims with legal actions, arrests, and, in some cases, physical violence if they do not pay. In many cases, the callers harass victims’ relatives, friends, and employers.
Some fraudsters have instructed victims to fax a statement agreeing to pay a certain amount, on a specific date, via a pre-paid Visa card. The statement further declares the victim will never dispute the debt.
If you receive these calls, do not follow the caller’s instructions. Rather, you should:
■Notify your banking institutions.
■Contact the three major credit bureaus and request an alert be put on your file.
■Contact your local law enforcement agencies if you feel you are in immediate danger.
■File a complaint at www.IC3.gov.
Tips to avoid becoming a victim of this scam:
■Never give your Social Security number—or personal information of any kind—over the telephone or online unless you initiate the contact.
■Be suspicious of any e-mail with urgent requests for personal financial information. The e-mail may include upsetting or exciting but false statements to get you to react immediately.
■Avoid filling out forms in e-mail messages that request personal information.
■Ensure that your browser is up-to-date and security patches have been applied.
■Check your bank, credit, and debit card statements regularly to make sure that there are no unauthorized transactions. If anything looks suspicious, contact your bank and all card issuers.
■When you contact companies, use numbers provided on the back of cards or statements - kayThank you for that info!
- DanTe replies to JenIf you have call forwarding features (like on Verizon Digital Voice), than forward this jerk to 717-338-2533. That's the FCC Director's office phone. Maybe the FCC will finally do their job when they start getting the annoying calls.
- swkwmsThis same man from 516-986-5545 has been harrassing me for weeks and months. He has threatend me with the police will be at my door in the morining to arrest me. Told me than that I will be very sorry if I don't pay. Also that something bad was going to happen to me if I didn't pay him.. He has flat out told me to "shut up" because I asked who and how much I owed. Whom he was collecting for.. This man has called me up to 8 -9 times a day..I have saved his recordings that he left on my voicemail.. I told him the last time he called he needed to send me paper work that it is my legal right to receive it in the mail. He would not give me any names of who I owed this money to.. He does not stop calling me.. Now he changes his number about 1 or twice a month so when I do answer I don't know it's him til he starts talking.. Today went to far.. I was told again to shut up.. that the state police will be here to arrest me.. I was a jerk if I didn't pay because something bad was going to happen. I was so sick of his "you know what" that I called him back 3 times in a row and asked to speak witha supervisor. he could not produce one for me to talk to..He hxung up on me.. The next two calls were fun,,,I in returned told him he was as_ h_le,,that you get back in life what you put out..and the next time he calls,, I will use a horn and blow it so so loud and long in the phone.. that his ears will fall off....

- Fluffy| 1 replyI received the same call today at my job. I was very upset and dont know how he got my work number and name. He tried to tell me I was being charged with all kinds of stuff and that if I didnt pay that I was gonna receive consequences. He told me my name and tried to say the last four numbers of my SSN but they were incorrect. He also gave me a wrong email address. I dont know how he got my number but I hope it doesnt happen again. Have any of you received any identity theft or anything like that from these calls. I was worried that perhaps they find out information and can get in to your accounts. I'm not sure but I hope not! Be careful with this guy and dont give him any information!

www.mplegal.com - TerryWe keep getting repeated calls from these folks asking for a Martin Nichols at my business. We keep telling them he isn't here and never was. It is a man with an Indian or Pakistani accent. Time for it to stop. One time the caller gave out a complete SS number and threatened to have law enforcement come to us. Even after speaking with one of the attorneys and explaining the situation (the attorney promised we would not be contacted again) the calls have persisted.I think it is time to sue!
