I got a call today but no voice mail.  Any idea why Dept. of Human Services are calling around?

What I have found is that there are companies that are scamming people and they are scamming people using different phone numbers. The number that they want you to call if they leave a message is an area code 855. This has been on ABC and other internet pages. Copy and past url to read

I called this number back within 2 minutes of receiving it and got a message saying it was a non working number for the STate of Michigan

Outgoing calls for the State of Michigan have a generic caller ID from their phone system. This call could have been anyone withing State Government.

Got one 11:38 AM 4.22.2013 and when I called back got the 'non-working number from the state of michigan' recording.

This is likely a 'spoofed' caller ID from the 'usual suspects' scum, but a more creative one than usual. People living in Michigan 'know' the 373- exchange as a State Government one, so it would be more likely we'd pick up.

How do we get this stuff to stop? I get between 1 and 10 calls a day from 'spam' callers. It is getting to the point where I'm going to get rid of my long time number and just start over with a non-published one, but I don't know that will really help either!

When state employees (all departments) make out going calls, they are sent through this number. You can not call it back. You won't reach anyone. If you received a call from this number and the state has no reason to call you, it was probably in error.
