Tell him you're recording his calls and reporting him to the police. That'll shut him up.

That's exactly what I just did. Told him I work for the FTC and this call is recorded for his safety and security purposes. He hung up quick..lol..

These person named Steve Hoffman keeps calling my phone saying I have committed a crime and is sending investI gators out arrest me. I told him I was going to report hI'm and he hung up. How do I get them to stop calling

Called today said name is Steve and he is an investigator for the IRS and we owed four thousand because who ever did our taxes miscalculated what was owed. Said the tax preparer had been sent notice of this and should have notified me. Liar, my taxes our self prepared so no preparer to contact. Threatened that officers were coming in the next hour to arrest me for tax fraud. I hung up and called the IRS and they advised that is not a representative of them and that is not the way they do business. Please if he calls you hang up or make a clown out of him!!

Bhaha this is a scam - I got the same call, I recorded the call, he said his name was steve harris, and steve martin, I told him my name was Jane Smith and I didnt know why he was calling he proceeded to say that I owed back taxes and they were going to arrest me.  I got him talking and then dropped the bomb - told him I worked for the federal trade commission and the call was recorded, investigators will be at his door shortley. LMFAO - he hung up

I hope and pray that these scam artist are caught, and held accountable for everything they have ever done to decieve, and take advantage of innocent,hard working decent people,GO GET THEM F.T.C  F.B.I.  and above all,  GOD !

Caller self identified as Steve Martin leaving messages of arrest in progress if return call is not made.

Got several messages from the same number telling me I was going to be arrested.  My comment was ok, I'm at home come arrest me

Same message about call back. Funny thing is it's a message that said call back. Why would someone call with a per-recorderd message when I'm on the phone. SCAMMMMMMMMMM

 I received a call today by a steve harris but he must forgot his name changed it to steve harris he said my taxes done wrong so I said let me talk to my tax man he said no I cannot talk to anybody I called my husband  he says I cannot talk to him to Stay on the line until police shows up mean while he hung up himself he said this is his second time to call I put it on facebook I hear his  also in the Calif area Please Can Someone Stop Him And Send Police After Him

There is a widespread IRS or "tax scam" being  practiced by scammers on both Canadian and USA residents.

Short answer:
The IRS never initiates a contact via phone.
They always send a snailmail first.

Same as everybody else but we never talked to him.  He just left two voice mail messages (Steve Martin was the name on the second one; Steve something else on the first one).  He's called before; guy with an accent. Said something about a federal magistrate and that we'd be arrested.  Total scam.  

Call threatening legal action for IRS debit. Call is from a magic jack customer. Reported to customer service and filed a complaint with the IRS fraud site.

This man w/ a Syrian/mideastern accent claims to be "Steve Martin".  A US Treasury officer of some sort, claiming that I've now missed two "dates" and will be taken in front of a US Magistrate/Federal Court if I do not make a payment of $5000.00 to him.  Also, I am in jeopardy of being arrested immediately if payment is not made.
But, when calling back it's an unregistered 'Magic Jack' number in Albany, NY.  An obvious scam to rip off elderly folks especially and to no doubt fund terrorism of some sort.
When will the government do something about this?  Isn't that what the "Patriot Act" was for?  Or was it just an excuse to infringe on American Citizens Privacy?

They do all the time.  They issue public notices for everyone to see.  They are on the IRS web site and all over television -- at least on the real news, not the "talking head" fake news.

No.  Nobody was going around back when that passed posing as fake IRS agents on the phone.  The Act was designed to catch people sending explosives and physically or biologically attacking us.  Like the anthrax attacks that began right after the World Trade Center attacks and killed several people.  So you can see it was very helpful tracking THAT down.

I'm not qualified to answer that question.  You'll have to ask then Acting President Dick Cheney about it.

Keep getting calls from this number.  Foreign accent gentleman identifies himself as Steve Martin and that if I ignore his call and don't call back that I'm going to be arrested and taken to court blah blah blah.  I have 3 voice mails saved from this number.  Last time I actually spoke to him the nature of the charges involved back taxes or some crap.  Calls I received prior to this were related to PayDay loans that I defaulted on which wasn't true.  Now they come up with that I'm a criminal regarding federal income taxes. I think I'll try telling them the call is being recorded and will be forwarded to the FTC and/or FBI upon completion of the call and see what response I get from Mr. Steve Martin...lol
