They said they were a private fund raiser for children with cancer...What a joke..

I answered but they didn't feel like talking I guess.

Got a call at home from them today. They left message and just said my first name and left no further message.

Called number and pushed 0 for operator and it just rang.

Says it is something for a children's cancer charity.

New area code was Albany as I have many friends in that area of state.

Answered a call this morning from this number since they have been calling non-stop.

Was met with "May I speak to (my name)? This is the verification dept (did not say of what). I'm sorry we got cut off. Would you still like to make a $40 donation to Children's Cancer Recovery Foundation?". Um, no. I never had such a conversation. She tried to make it seem as perhaps someone else had picked up the phone. The only other person here is my mom, who can't answer the phone. She even went so far as to ask if there were any small children who may have answered. No, there are not and, if there were, would it be acceptable to speak to them about a donation? Very shady!

They now know more information about you! Never answer!

My husband pick up and they wanted money money for kids he said no and they called so we did not pick up

.just because they call you doesn't mean its a scam. check tjem out on charity navigator. it will tell exactly how much money donated goes to the kids. to just outright make baseless assumptions is just ignorance.educate yourselves.

On average, charities only gets up to 20% and the telemarketer gets 80% or more. That's a scam in my opinion.
If you want to make your generosity count, look up the address of the charity you want to donate to and send them a check directly. On average that makes your donation 5 times as valuable.
Robo callers can't collect unemployment insurance and you won't hurt their feelings.

One last thing. If they were legitimately collecting for a charity, why does caller show Albany, NY and not the name of the telemarketer. If they're starting off by hiding their identity, why would I be foolish enough to trust that even 20% would go to the charity. I'm still convinced this particular caller is a scam artist.

I got a call from Albany, NY. I didn't answer figuring it was the emergency alert message for my child's college. My child is home now for spring break, so whatever it was, it wasn't important. The alert system leaves a message. There was none so I find myself here writing my post of the day.

One point to add to my replies above to the previous poster. Just because the caller says they're collecting for a legitimate charity doesn't make it true. There are plenty of impersonators out their.

I got another call from Albany, NY. I would block the # if I hadn't already run out of blocks. Optimum, I need 3 times the # of blocks you give me. Please increase the # or I'll just drop my landline and Optimum.
