- scam alertSame as above... guy (SUPER thick accent w/bad phone connection, and numerous others talking in background) claims to be w/IRS and that I have probs w/my taxes, in past years. I ask him if he mailed anything, and he says they did repeatedly (impossible). I ask him to tell me the last 4 digits of my SS# and he says he's "not authorized, only a senior member can do that." He tells me to call JOHN ANDERSON (from the band YES, no doubt); I tell him to mail stuff again; no way I'm giving tax info over phone to a random guy when no caller ID info shows up, other than this number. And yes, he was super aggressive. SCAM!!!!!!
- Caller: FAKE i.r.s.
- DebI just got a call from 530-208-0695 - the guy said he is from the IRS and his name is John Anderson - he has a thick Indian accent which does not match the name - says that a warrant will come to get me in 45 minutes at the UN because I have not paid my federal taxes from 2008-13, they came to my house a month ago to serve me the notice and I have to appear in court tomorrow and my property and bank account will be seized. I told him to give me the name of a person so my contact at the UN Tax Unit will speak to them - he was so rude and said he has no time to speak with anyone. I hung up and tried calling the number back, no one answered, a beep came on but no recording. I then decided to google the number and came to this website to find out its a scam. These guys need to be put to justice, this is harassment, they can give you a heart attack!! I hope something can be done so they don't eventually kill someone with such a call. Cant figure out why they would do such a thing.
- Caller: IRS

- CalledByScammerI got a call from 5302080695 few minutes ago (early morning on a Saturday) - guy with a thick accent in a very murky line left a message - though it was hard to hear the whole message he said he was from IRS and there are issues with my taxes, said "before any legal allegations are done" and "don't try to ignore this call" etc in a threatening manner.I realized it was a scam call.. I found that was true by googling that number and saw that many others have gotten this scam call.
- Caller: who knows
- ConfidentialThis jerk has called my home yesterday and this morning. He leaves very threatening and very fake IRS messages. Can barely understand him.
- Caller: Fake IRS call
- naomi| 1 replyI received a scam call on 2/7/14 from this number. Very thick male accent (indian?) and I had to repeat the message a few times to figure out what he was saying. Something about Unemployment and the IRS. He knew my first name though, which was very creepy. I work in Human Resources and you will only be contacted by California State Unemployment if you file a claim (seems obvious, but just want to put it out there). Also, in most cases, they deal with you directly by mail. THIS IS A SCAM. DON'T CALL BACK!!!!
- Caller: Scam Unemployment/IRS Call
- Rob Tishel replies to naomiI got one this morning. The lady asked to call John Anderson at 530-208-0695 immediately. Her accent was totally un-understandable. I called the number - it just beeped. Then I look up this number on the internet - here it is so many people affected by this. I will report this to IRS.
- yc| 1 replyI got call from this number and ask me call back today to IRS. I called and a guy name John Anderson with indian accent, he said my own ISR monay and they send letter in Dec, but no one reply. I said I didn't receive this letter, He said the leeter get returned because I didn't sign to receive the letter, I said no one is at home, post officer usually will left a notice, then we will go to post office to pickup and sign, I never got this notice. He said there is no notice, we must stay home waiting for this IRS letter. If no one is home, he don't care and yell me with many dirty word and said I will be under arrest within 45 min. I was really mentally be attacked. Cannot do any work now because I give him my home address, I am afraid this scam team will do some bad thing. Should I report to local policy?

- Alfalfa replies to Rowan| 1 replyWASHINGTON — The Internal Revenue Service today warned consumers about a sophisticated phone scam targeting taxpayers, including recent immigrants, throughout the country.
Victims are told they owe money to the IRS and it must be paid promptly through a pre-loaded debit card or wire transfer. If the victim refuses to cooperate, they are then threatened with arrest, deportation or suspension of a business or driver’s license. In many cases, the caller becomes hostile and insulting.
“This scam has hit taxpayers in nearly every state in the country. We want to educate taxpayers so they can help protect themselves. Rest assured, we do not and will not ask for credit card numbers over the phone, nor request a pre-paid debit card or wire transfer,” says IRS Acting Commissioner Danny Werfel. “If someone unexpectedly calls claiming to be from the IRS and threatens police arrest, deportation or license revocation if you don’t pay immediately, that is a sign that it really isn’t the IRS calling.” Werfel noted that the first IRS contact with taxpayers on a tax issue is likely to occur via mail
Other characteristics of this scam include:
Scammers use fake names and IRS badge numbers. They generally use common names and surnames to identify themselves.
Scammers may be able to recite the last four digits of a victim’s Social Security Number.
Scammers spoof the IRS toll-free number on caller ID to make it appear that it’s the IRS calling.
Scammers sometimes send bogus IRS emails to some victims to support their bogus calls.
Victims hear background noise of other calls being conducted to mimic a call site.
After threatening victims with jail time or driver’s license revocation, scammers hang up and others soon call back pretending to be from the local police or DMV, and the caller ID supports their claim.
If you get a phone call from someone claiming to be from the IRS, here’s what you should do:
If you know you owe taxes or you think you might owe taxes, call the IRS at 1.800.829.1040. The IRS employees at that line can help you with a payment issue – if there really is such an issue.
If you know you don’t owe taxes or have no reason to think that you owe any taxes (for example, you’ve never received a bill or the caller made some bogus threats as described above), then call and report the incident to the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration at 1.800.366.4484.
If you’ve been targeted by this scam, you should also contact the Federal Trade Commission and use their “FTC Complaint Assistant” at FTC.gov. Please add "IRS Telephone Scam" to the comments of your complaint.
Taxpayers should be aware that there are other unrelated scams (such as a lottery sweepstakes) and solicitations (such as debt relief) that fraudulently claim to be from the IRS.
The IRS encourages taxpayers to be vigilant against phone and email scams that use the IRS as a lure. The IRS does not initiate contact with taxpayers by email to request personal or financial information. This includes any type of electronic communication, such as text messages and social media channels. The IRS also does not ask for PINs, passwords or similar confidential access information for credit card, bank or other financial accounts. Recipients should not open any attachments or click on any links contained in the message. Instead, forward the e-mail to phishing@irs.gov.
