I am glad to look at people's comments this site.  Caller with Indian accent claimed that he's from IRS. I asked him several times that" is this commercial call". He said I should call 530-208-9631 to talk with Kevin Peterson about my tax stuffs. This is bunch of crap.

Got a call from this number. Indian accent.  Clearly a fraud as IRS will never call over the phone and leave a message and that too a threatening message.   They will always send you an official notice for an audit with clearly defined list of items they want to verify.  Nothing more nothing less. There is no threatening from IRS until you are proven guilty.  Then also they will not send you a threatening message.  They will work with you resolve until it is clearly a fraud case,  Then the courts come in picture.

I had a call from a guy with an Indian accent that he is an IRS agent ............... so I should contact the IRS case manager Keven Peterson at  530-2089631. This call didn't sound right so I called Time Warner and they said it is a scam and I can report it to FTC.GOV, so I did.

I got the same call today and the Indian guy called back 6 times and said "Ma'am, you hung up on me and I'll call you back all day."  He said there was an IRS investigation open on me and I had to call Kevin Peterson back ASAP TODAY at 530-208-9631.  He said he was from a local IRS office.  Glad I googled it - seems like a big scam.  They called an unlisted business line in my name; of which I have never given the IRS that phone number.  Verizon must sell number.

I also got the call this morning and it freaked me out the person was Chris Rogers and that he was from the IRS and he was going to freeze my accounts, have me arrested, put a lien etc. Said I owed $10,000 in backtaxes because they did an audit. I thought you had to be notified of an audit. Said that he would transfer me to restitution for a Kevin Peterson also how my license would be revoked etc. If they don't get the $$$ in two hours I would be arrested and its been almost two hours now. I felt it was a scam though especially since I was still able to pay my rent via electronically.

WASHINGTON — The Internal Revenue Service today warned consumers about a sophisticated phone scam targeting taxpayers, including recent immigrants, throughout the country.

Victims are told they owe money to the IRS and it must be paid promptly through a pre-loaded debit card or wire transfer. If the victim refuses to cooperate, they are then threatened with arrest, deportation or suspension of a business or driver’s license. In many cases, the caller becomes hostile and insulting.

“This scam has hit taxpayers in nearly every state in the country.  We want to educate taxpayers so they can help protect themselves.  Rest assured, we do not and will not ask for credit card numbers over the phone, nor request a pre-paid debit card or wire transfer,” says IRS Acting Commissioner Danny Werfel. “If someone unexpectedly calls claiming to be from the IRS and threatens police arrest, deportation or license revocation if you don’t pay immediately, that is a sign that it really isn’t the IRS calling.” Werfel noted that the first IRS contact with taxpayers on a tax issue is likely to occur via mail
Other characteristics of this scam include:
Scammers use fake names and IRS badge numbers. They generally use common names and surnames to identify themselves.
Scammers may be able to recite the last four digits of a victim’s Social Security Number.
Scammers spoof the IRS toll-free number on caller ID to make it appear that it’s the IRS calling.
Scammers sometimes send bogus IRS emails to some victims to support their bogus calls.
Victims hear background noise of other calls being conducted to mimic a call site.
After threatening victims with jail time or driver’s license revocation, scammers hang up and others soon call back pretending to be from the local police or DMV, and the caller ID supports their claim.
If you get a phone call from someone claiming to be from the IRS, here’s what you should do:
If you know you owe taxes or you think you might owe taxes, call the IRS at 1.800.829.1040. The IRS employees at that line can help you with a payment issue – if there really is such an issue.
If you know you don’t owe taxes or have no reason to think that you owe any taxes (for example, you’ve never received a bill or the caller made some bogus threats as described above), then call and report the incident to the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration at 1.800.366.4484.
If you’ve been targeted by this scam, you should also contact the Federal Trade Commission and use their “FTC Complaint Assistant” at FTC.gov.  Please add "IRS Telephone Scam" to the comments of your complaint.
Taxpayers should be aware that there are other unrelated scams (such as a lottery sweepstakes) and solicitations (such as debt relief) that fraudulently claim to be from the IRS.
The IRS encourages taxpayers to be vigilant against phone and email scams that use the IRS as a lure. The IRS does not initiate contact with taxpayers by email to request personal or financial information.  This includes any type of electronic communication, such as text messages and social media channels. The IRS also does not ask for PINs, passwords or similar confidential access information for credit card, bank or other financial accounts. Recipients should not open any attachments or click on any links contained in the message. Instead, forward the e-mail to phishing@irs.gov.

More information on how to report phishing scams involving the IRS is available on the genuine IRS website, IRS.gov.

Received a similar call (Indian accent) claiming to be Daniel Brown of the IRS, similar words in the message of above posts.
Called back and someone said Chris - IRS.  I said you called me so what do you want.  He asked me for my name so I said you called me so you should have that (thought he would have caller ID).  He got angry and said I did not call you at which point I simply hung up.
How does this person get my name and phone number?
Reported this to FTC.  Let us see what this agency does about this.
Thanks folks for all your posts -  best education ever!

Just received a call from a lady with Indian accents.  She said I have an Income Tax issue which one of the senior officers can help me out.  She asked me to call Mr. Kevin Peterson at 530-208-9631 which is the same number as showing in the caller ID of her call ()South Lake T, CA).  I asked her why I am not receiving a letter from IRS about the issue, who she works for, and where she gets my phone number? She said she works for IRS, and just call that number and he is available right at this moment.  He will explain and resolve the issues for me.  My guts told me this is a scam.  So I didn't call.  I am glad to find this thread of conversation online.  Be aware.

so a very abusive man with a thick Indian accent dialect calls me this morning to tell me that I am being investigated for tax fraud. he gives me this number to call so that a Kevin Petersen can give me the details. I had heard about this fraud already so I hung up on him four times in mid sentence and he just kept calling me back! Nice way to start your morning. Hopefully some day he will get caught. I can ALMOST see why people would think he was real until you google the info he gives you and you find all these nice people who have reported him!
