The caller ID for this caller displays "WEB RANKING."  The caller does not leave a message.  Legitimate callers leave messages.  This is highly suspicious.

Sometimes, I receive important calls for me that I do not recognize or are not shown on the ID of my land-line and cell phones. When this happens, I take the call without saying anything.
If someone is there, they will eventually speak first, then I can decide.
I just took a call from this number (530-392-9043) in that manner with the read out of "WEB RANKING".
After 8-10 seconds, they hung up.
What is the source of this page-site and what can you effectively do to deter these events?

Got a call from this number within the same hour as above -- illegal robocall. Likely scam or phishing expedition.  Don't answer.

Same old scam, brand new phone number.  Came up as "Web Ranking" on caller ID which has nothing to do with the stupid robomessage they left on the answering machine.  Some "Up With People" sounding dude said that I could get an absolutely FREE (can you believe it?!?!!!!) home security system.  Wow, and all I have to do is let them put a "small sign" on my yard.  Just press 1 and someone will come on the line and press 2 if you want to be removed from the list.  Yeah, that's exactly how this scam worked before under various other numbers which these jerks have used before.  So let me guess....  1) if I agree to this, they will assume I am of below average intellect and that I currently do not have a working home alarm system, 2) I'll bet they want my credit card number because all I have to do is pay a small shipping fee, and 3) when the sign arrives, it will say in great big letters "IDIOT LIVES HERE."  No thanks.....  

received call at 8:40 pm. no on other end after a minute the call was ended. I said nothing just waited.

Caller ID read Web Ranking. Called at 9:00 p.m.. Answered the phone to bless them out but no one answered when I picked up. Blocked number.

I do not answer calls from numbers I do not recognize.  I live on the East Coast.  Call was at 20:00hrs.  Caller ID stated Auburn CA.  This is a new phone number for a free security system as mentioned by another caller.  I had blocked the previous number so they tried a different one.

"Star Home security installed for free".... deleted the rest of the VM.  Let me guess: "small" monthly fee, 2 year contract, who knows?  CC scam? also who knows... this is why I still have a home phone: so I can use my existing excellent 24x7 monitored security system and screen all calls.

Recvd call today at 6:43 pm & didn't pick up.  The following was on voice mail:  "Due to increase of criminal activity in my area, GE Security is paying for 5 houses to receive new ON STAR home protection package AT NO COST TO ME.  Must be willing to put a small solar security sign in my front yard.    Press 1 if I want to place sign in my front yard or 2 to be placed on Do Not Call list."  Another voice says the part "press 2 to be placed on DNC list which was kinda strange.   WITH this scenario, you cannot win - no matter what you press, you can get slammed by somebody without any sign, system or anything.  You'll agree to something totally different possibly!  Obviously blocking this call.  I DID NOT solicit their service, don't want it - whatever they have & I'm sick & tired of getting these damn calls!  They target the old & ignorant with the threat of having crime in your neighborhood to start with and entice them to get a FREEBIE system which we all know is nonexistent.  The last voice on the vmail was an addition just to get somebody to select a number for them to be able to do Lord knows what with it!  NEVER PRESS A NUMBER OR KEY ON YOUR TELEPHONE KEYPAD - THEY CANNOT BE TRUSTED!  These people have to be crooks.

I knew better than to answer based on caller ID, and this particular line has no answering machine.  No joke, they let this ring for 25 rings, before it stopped.  

Same free home security system with a different number.  I never, never answer these calls, and the do not call list is nothing but a joke and a scam itself.

Getting really sick of all these phone calls....get them to stop

This useless spammer called but left nothing on the voicemail.  Others are saying this is the same old "free" home security system scam in exchange for some stupid sign in your front yard.  Maybe I'll tell them where they can stick that sign if they keep calling.  But the fact that they cloak their identity on the caller ID under the obviously false identity of "Web Ranking" proves these people to be liars that are willing to use deception to get what they want.  People like this should never be trusted in any way.  Don't accept any offers or give out any information.

I've heard of this con scheme. They sell you a bill, but they never send you a sign. Something about paying $40 for a $2.50 sign. Then there's something about handing a thief your credit card information. I mean, why not hand them your pay check too?

Just dead air when I answered.  This happens 2-3 times a week.  I wish I could do without a phone.  

Thanks to those providing info that call is from free alarm system scam. Like others, called id says "Web Ranking" Did not get a.message, but got call earlier afternoon from 9045723416. Others warned this number is also alarm scam, but caller id showed "Unknown". The scammers can put ANY phone number or caller ID. They try every trick to peek curiosity and sometimes use local area code (904 is local to my area), etc.to get potential victims to answer. Apparently these tactics work because Americans are scammed for estmated 6 billion dollars last year. Law enforcement cannot keep up and the scammers operate with impunity. Thank you 800Notes and those taking the time to report. We're going to have to help defend ourselves.

I never answer "mystery" numbers/ID's unless the caller leaves a message that convinces me I should. Today my wife had inadvertently turned off the answering machine, and they must have let about ten rings go by before they disconnected. Three years ago, as a hobby, I began recording the "illegitimate" calls. My listing includes almost 2000 calls, and 500 different numbers. What fun. :D
