I got a call on my cell phone from a paul jackson...with a middle eastern accent...really!! this is a scam!!

My friend in Lou KY just got the same call & I called back & acted like her Atty & he hung up on me.

Received a voicemail on my work phone saying that I have a lawsuit against me and my social security number.  Could not understand the caller very well.  Had an Asian Indian accent.  Had my CPA call and he also had difficulty understanding them.  They said there was a lawsuit against me with 3 counts against my number. 1st was a federal banking regulation. They then asked my CPA his name. He told them his name and that he was a CPA. They did not know what a CPA is. He told them it means a Certified Public Accountant.  They replied that he did not tell them that at first. They laughed and hung up.  So beware.  THEY ARE SCAMMERS!

I had this done to me today. They had my cell number and work number. They told me if I had anyone to take care of my kids if I went to jail because they were going to arrest me tomorrow at my job and to not tell anyone because this was only going to embarrass me. I can't believe there are people out there in the world who can take advantage of people like this. This is the lowest of!! I am disgusted at how the world has made a turn for the worst!!

Omg.... I got the same call today. He told me to b ready because I was gonna get arrested tomorrow. That the cops we're gonna pick up from my job. I can't believe this people. The scary part is that they have all my info.. Social security # work # cell #. What do that want????????

Yeah I got the same call today on my work number.  The guy is said do you have an attorney.  I asked him who it was.  He said I am calling from ACS legal services.  I asked him how he got the number he just kept saying he was from an attorney office and that I was going to be arrested tomorrow.  I asked him what it was about and that I did not want him to call my office number.  He gave me a number of 530 884 2921 and told me to call him back right away from my personal number.  I called the FTC and they told me that it is a scam that is associtated with cash advance loans.  Which I did apply for and pay off months ago.  If this happens call the ftc at 1 877 382 4357.  Then call equifax at 1 800 525 6285 to put a 90 day freeze on your credit.  That is what the FTC told me.  Good luck

Extortion Scam Related to Delinquent Payday Loans

The Internet Crime Complaint Center has received many complaints from victims of payday loan telephone collection scams. Callers claim the victim is delinquent in a payday loan and must repay the loan to avoid legal consequences. The callers purport to be representatives of the FBI, Federal Legislative Department, various law firms, or other legitimate-sounding agencies. They claim to be collecting debts for companies such as United Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Net, and other Internet check-cashing services.

According to complaints received from the public, the callers have accurate data about victims, including Social Security numbers, dates of birth, addresses, employer information, bank account numbers, and the names and telephone numbers of relatives and friends. How the fraudsters obtained the personal information varies, but in some cases victims have reported they completed online applications for other loans or credit cards before the calls started.

The fraudsters relentlessly call the victim’s home, cell phone, and place of employment. They refuse to provide any details about the alleged payday loans and become abusive when questioned. The callers have threatened victims with legal actions, arrests, and, in some cases, physical violence if they do not pay. In many cases, the callers harass victims’ relatives, friends, and employers.

Some fraudsters have instructed victims to fax a statement agreeing to pay a certain amount, on a specific date, via a pre-paid Visa card. The statement further declares the victim will never dispute the debt.

If you receive these calls, do not follow the caller’s instructions. Rather, you should:

■Notify your banking institutions.
■Contact the three major credit bureaus and request an alert be put on your file.
■Contact your local law enforcement agencies if you feel you are in immediate danger.
■File a complaint at www.IC3.gov.
Tips to avoid becoming a victim of this scam:

■Never give your Social Security number—or personal information of any kind—over the telephone or online unless you initiate the contact.
■Be suspicious of any e-mail with urgent requests for personal financial information. The e-mail may include upsetting or exciting but false statements to get you to react immediately.
■Avoid filling out forms in e-mail messages that request personal information.
■Ensure that your browser is up-to-date and security patches have been applied.
■Check your bank, credit, and debit card statements regularly to make sure that there are no unauthorized transactions. If anything looks suspicious, contact your bank and all card issuers.
■When you contact companies, use numbers provided on the back of cards or statements

Thanks for your reply I changed all my accounts and put a fraud alert on my credit.  Thanks to people like you taking the time to upload informative information like this.  I really appreciate it stuff like this renews my faith in people willingness to help others.  Be Blessed

Recieved a voicemail on my work phone on 02/11/2012. Could only understand the phone number he gave me. Don't know if he was calling for a specific individual or just targeting the company I work for. Anyone have a legit answer to who these people are!?

Keep receiving phone calls from 15308842921 telling me I'm going to get arrested and asking about my employment. The first time he called it was a foreign accent and he identified himself as officer Dan and told me he was on his way to pick me up from my job...I don't work there anymore, but still.  Then he called back and said he was calling from ACS.

Thank you all for the tips. I will follow them all. How dare these non English speaking people threaten me and put my job in danger!! This is ridiculous!! What else can we do
