call came up as SSI - called back it is a Independent Survey company.  

Three unsolicited calls coming in at all hours of the day and night. The last call came in at 8:45 at night identified as SSI.  

7:30 pm. This number on the caller id. No message.

9pm, declined, no message left. Curious tough, since my number has the same area code. Is this the case for everyone else?

Called five times in two hours. No message. Looked up number and found these notes. Looked up company and wrote them to remove my number. Also blocked them as I have an iphone. They are not based in the va area. I feel it's shady to hide identity with area code to trick you into answering told them this via email and that due to that I would not be giving my opinion on anything they wanted. Also stated if they do continue to call I will file for harassment.

The Do Not Call registry covers only sales calls. Surveyors cannot by definition violate the Telemarketing Sales Rule unless the survey turns into a sales pitch or facilitates sales somehow. The acronym is for Survey Sampling International, which merged a few years back with Opinionology, which had changed its name from Western Wats only seven months prior. Both firms have historically attracted many complaints for nuisance calls.

SSI wins many complaints from people offered money for surveys who can't get paid and/or are locked out of their SSI online accounts. Others are upset about abandoned calls and failure to obey verbal opt-out. One BBB commentor in March 2013 was called repeatedly for the same survey about under-34 movie watching after completing the survey once, despite the rude insistence of the phone drone that "this is the first time we've called".

The company is ready with excuses rather than atonement for keeping its dialers cranked so high. I would suggest making USPS Certified Mail with return card your friend rather than make an easily forgotten verbal no-call request.

The use of a local area code is common trickery to evade blocking devices and fool people into answering. I believe the scofflaw debt collectors made that deception popular. The number displayed is often not a spoof but a real VOIP number controlled by the caller. They're dirt cheap and disposable once the company campaign in your area ends.

Not necessarily Ike.  The law that created the DNC List contains so many exceptions and loopholes that the whole thing is virtually useless.  In this case, SSI is a survey company.  They are at this time probably asking opinions on the upcoming elections.  The law allows them to do so.  DNCL is useless.  If you threaten these callers with a complaint to FCC they laugh.  It's easier to just block the number if you can.

I received a call from 540-425-3280, upon answering they asked me how the hospital was in this area. I told them that we have a good hospital and they hung up. I wonder if they are looking for information on people who may have visited the local hospital in order to obtain records by fraudulent means. It is unsettling as to why someone would ask this one particular question and hang up. The caller ID showed SSI as the call source.

It's a political survey

They have been calling a lot. I answer on the third or fourth ring and they hang up. After reading this, I just pick it up and hang up immediately after the first ring. How annoying.

They call my house regularly.   Yesterday they called 4 times.  I answered twice and it was a fax machine.  Very strange.

Got one call from there so far. Saved in my contacts as yet another crap caller. Glad to see everyone's notes...hate getting calls from unknown parties.

Sounds like a message from the persons who made the call.  If I find them, I will track them down and make them unhappy along with their family and pets!

So in your world a now vintage reply just short of three weeks later is somehow "quick" and therefore suspicious, for as we all know only people with a dog in the race are permitted to comment in 800Notes threads.
